OVERVIEW Our client, a Canadian-owned construction and maintenance contractor serving industrial sectors across North America, is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead the successful execution of major construction projects. With significant project activity underway and continued growth on the horizon, this leadership team is still focused on maintaining their positive work culture with a family feel, and an open-door policy. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the HSE Manager (Corporate) will help strengthen existing systems, policies, and procedures while mentoring teams, conducting audits, identifying risk, and supporting a proactive and people-focused safety culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide corporate leadership and direction for health, safety, and environmental programs across company operations and multiple active construction project sites.
- Lead the development, implementation, standardization, and continuous improvement of company-wide HSE policies, procedures, programs, and management systems.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to site-based HSE personnel across multiple projects, ensuring consistent standards, accountability, and effective execution of HSE programs.
- Conduct regular site visits, inspections, audits, and assessments to evaluate HSE performance, identify gaps and risks, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and followed through.
- Partner closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, supervisors, and field personnel to integrate practical HSE requirements into day-to-day construction activities and project execution.
- Ensure company operations and project sites comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while identifying hazards and developing practical mitigation and corrective action strategies.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of HSE experience, preferably within construction, industrial, mining, or heavy industry environments.
- Relevant Health, Safety & Environment certification (NCSO, CRSP, other)
- Previous experience providing HSE leadership and guidance within active construction or industrial project environments.
- Practical field experience with a strong understanding of construction activities, hazards, work practices, and safety requirements.
- Experience implementing and improving health and safety policies, procedures, programs, and management systems.
- Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, approachable leadership style.
- Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of an organization, from field personnel through project and senior management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other standard business applications.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Valid passport and eligibility to travel to the United States.
