Job Summary
Under the direction of the Equipment Superintendent, the Equipment Operator is responsible for maintaining the EID irrigation irrigation distribution and draining system including the cleaning of ditches, repairing of washouts, installing culverts / structures / pipelines, and placing riprap, armour, or gravel.
Duties
- Operate EID equipment to maintain the EID irrigation distribution system and draining system including the cleaning of ditches, repairing of washouts, installing culverts, installing structures, loading and unloading of trucks, installing and repairing Texas gates, installing pipelines, and placing riprap, armour, or gravel.
- Remove and replace fencing and gates when necessary.
- Check grades.
- Prepare weekly equipment reports.
- Operate heavy duty equipment in a safe manner and ensure it is kept in proper working order; ensure the regular and daily inspection and maintenance of the equipment (e.g., engine coolants, fuel and lubricant levels, clean track rollers, and greasing when necessary); report any problems or equipment issues to the Equipment Superintendent.
- Operate an EID truck and ensure the District vehicle is kept in proper working order; report any problems to the District Mechanic.
- Communicate regularly with other District staff to co-ordinate activities that support the construction, maintenance and water delivery services throughout the District.
- Relate to and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, management, and others sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and issues promptly and professionally.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience; having versatility in operating various heavy-duty equipment considered an asset but willing to train the right candidate.
- Basic surveying experience, working with Laser’s & GPS.
- Basic knowledge of earthworks.
- Knowledge of site plans.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence.
