Rainy River
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About the Role
Position: Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic
Schedule: 14/14 – 12 hour days/nights (6-6 daily)
Position Reports To: Underground Maintenance Supervisor
Role Summary
The role of the Heavy Duty Mechanic is to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of heavy mining equipment by performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs as required. This position is responsible for diagnosing and addressing mechanical issues, ensuring all work is conducted safely and in accordance with industry standards and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on underground heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard assessments (JHAs), and underground emergency response procedures as required.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Identify and diagnose mechanical issues in heavy equipment, using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to pinpoint malfunctions and minimize downtime.
- Repairs & Overhauls: Conduct repairs and component overhauls on underground equipment, including engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and braking systems, ensuring all work is completed to manufacturer specifications.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance and repairs, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and your team.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and inspections performed. Complete detailed reports on equipment status, repairs conducted, and parts used.
- Operational Efficiency: Collaborate with the operations and maintenance teams to ensure minimal disruption to production schedules by performing timely and efficient repairs.
- Use of Tools & Equipment: Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment required for the repair and maintenance of heavy underground machinery.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Red Seal Mechanic.
- Underground experience is an asset.
- SAP or similar CMMS experience is an asset.
- Microsoft Office program operation and application skills.
- Caterpillar and Maclean experience is an asset.
- Sandvik drill experience is an asset.
- Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Excellent safety record with a demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in confined spaces and underground environments.
- Physical ability to work underground for extended shifts, including climbing, lifting, bending, and working in challenging conditions.
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $130,000 to 135,000.
