About the Role
K’ómoks First Nation is seeking a compassionate and skilled Indigenous Child & Youth Counsellor to join the Comox Valley Integrated Child and Youth (ICY) Team. This role is about walking alongside children, youth, and families—supporting emotional wellness, building resilience, and strengthening meaningful connections.
You will provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate mental health and wellness supports to Indigenous children and youth, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit young people across the Comox Valley.
What You’ll Do:
- Build trusting, strengths-based relationships with children, youth, and families.
- Provide individual and group counselling, crisis support, and skill-building interventions.
- Support children and youth experiencing mental health concerns, substance use, or emerging problematic dependencies.
- Collaborate with families, schools, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners to co-create care plans.
- Advocate for continuity of care and support transitions between services and systems.
- Contribute actively to integrated, team-based service delivery.
What You Bring
- Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body.
- Experience working with children, youth, and families in clinical or community settings.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive practices.
- Knowledge of the impacts of colonization and social determinants of health.
- Strong communication, relational, and organizational skills.
