A seven-year-old's robot won't turn left. A twelve-year-old wants to know why her code runs fine until line 14. Someone's 3D print came out looking like a melted candle.
Your job is to sit down with them and work it out together — not to hand over the answer, but to ask the question that gets them there.
Who we are
Steamoji is a maker academy for kids ages 5–15. We're not a tutoring centre and we're not a daycare with LEGO. Our apprentices work through real challenges in engineering, coding, robotics, fabrication, science, and digital arts — designing, testing, breaking, and rebuilding their own solutions.
The technical skills are the hook. What we're really building is critical thinking, creativity, confidence, and the kind of stubbornness that makes someone try the fifth prototype after four failures.

The role
We're looking for a Facilitator to run sessions alongside our team — guiding small groups of apprentices through their Steamoji missions, keeping the room focused and safe, and being the person kids turn to when something isn't working.
You don't need to know everything. You do need to be prepared, curious, and calm when a project goes sideways. The curriculum, the training, and the support are all here — what we're looking for is someone who shows up ready to use them.
This role comes with a real commitment. Our apprentices and our team count on the same faces being there week after week — on time, prepped, and ready to go. If you're looking for something you can pick up and put down between other priorities, this isn't it.
What you'll do
- Facilitate Steamoji sessions and guide small groups (4–5 apprentices) through hands-on missions
- Manage the classroom — keep the room focused, engaged, and safe without killing the energy
- Troubleshoot on the fly when builds fail, code breaks, or a machine misbehaves
- Answer questions in a way that helps kids find the answer themselves
- Come prepared: review instructional materials and videos before every session
- Set up and reset the space — materials, tools, equipment, workstations
- Follow and enforce safety protocols around tools and equipment
- Capture the good stuff (photos, videos, finished builds) for session documentation
- Support parents and families with day-to-day questions
- Pitch in on academy operations — attendance, prep, organizing materials
- Live out Steamoji's values in how you work with kids and teammates
Who you are
You'll need:
- Working knowledge of coding, robotics, engineering, or 3D design — enough to get unstuck and keep going
- Experience with kids: camp, tutoring, coaching, volunteering, babysitting, or a younger sibling you actually taught something
- The instincts to manage a room — you can redirect a distracted table without raising your voice
- Preparation as a habit. You'll review materials before sessions, and it shows when you don't
- Patience, energy, and genuine curiosity about how things work
- Reliability. You'll be scheduled consistently and expected to be there, on time, session after session
You'll thrive here if you:
- Would rather ask a good question than give a fast answer
- Stay calm when three kids need you at once
- Get more satisfaction from a kid's breakthrough than from having the right answer yourself
- Are happy to jump in on the unglamorous parts — cleanup, prep, restocking filament

Why this job
- You'll get better at the tech. Robotics, 3D printers, microcontrollers, design software. You'll be using them constantly.
- Real classroom experience. If you're heading toward teaching, education, or anything people-facing, this is the reps.
- A path forward. Strong facilitators move into Lead Facilitator roles. We'd rather promote than post.
- Hours that work around a life. Afternoons, evenings, and weekends — a good fit if you're studying, working elsewhere, or building something on the side.
- Work that means something. You'll watch kids go from "I can't do this" to "watch what I made" on repeat.

Job type: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week Location: Mississauga, ON (on-site)
Schedule:
- Tuesday–Friday: 3:00 – 7:00 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Sunday: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Shifts are assigned on a consistent weekly schedule. We're looking for someone who can commit to those shifts reliably — our families plan around them.
