COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Canada) Inc. is a leading global ocean carrier with a rich history in the Canadian market. The company is launching a brand-new operations centre, COSCO SHIPPING NAOC – North America Operation Center, in Toronto, and we are seeking detailed-oriented and proactive Operations Support Coordinators to join our ocean container logistics team.
We are hiring for multiple LOD Operations positions across several functional areas, including ODR & Shuttle Operations, Operations Support, Rail Tracing, and Rail Billing. In these roles, you will work closely with rail carriers, terminals, ramps, trucking companies, customs, customers, and internal teams to monitor cargo movements, resolve operational issues, maintain accurate records, and support the timely movement of import and export cargo.
This is a full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week reporting to the General Manager of Inland Operations Department of NAOC.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and perform outbound shipment tracing at origin locations and interchange rail ramps to ensure timely cargo movement.
- Manage Rail Storage Guarantee activities, including job order creation, tracking, and resolution of storage-related issues.
- Reconcile and validate ODR cargo information between terminal operating systems and IRIS 4 to ensure data accuracy and operational compliance.
- Coordinate rail bill processing and monitor cross-border customs holds, including diversion management from CHI destinations to CPF.
- Oversee import and export return shipments at terminals, rail ramps, and inland facilities, ensuring proper documentation and disposition.
- Monitor terminal operating systems to identify containers placed on customs hold and maintain visibility of cargo status throughout the clearance process.
- Collaborate with COSAG and other internal stakeholders to ensure customers are promptly notified of customs holds and required actions to facilitate cargo release and rail movement.
- Audit and verify hazardous materials (HazMat) certifications and verify customs clearance status for import and export shipments.
- Monitor container weight compliance and validate shipping documentation to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Review and identify applicable terminal and other related charges; coordinate the issuance of Third-Party Invoices and communicate with the Accounting team to place cargo on hold when required.
- Update routing instructions and process billing activities for containers released from customs examination sites to facilitate timely rail transportation.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, invoice exceptions, and carrier billing rejections in coordination with internal teams, customers, and service providers.
Skills/Requirement
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic understanding of:
o Rail network operations and scheduling
o Container handling processes (drayage, lift-on/lift-off at terminals, rail ramps and depots)
o International shipping and intermodal supply chains
o Rail, trucking, and ocean carrier integration within intermodal networks
o Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) and/or rail management systems
o Equipment types (containers, chassis, rail cars)
- Flexibility to work varying start and end times, including statutory holidays, as required to meet operational and business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Rail operations
o Terminal operations (port, inland terminal, or intermodal yard)
o Intermodal transportation or container logistics
- Experience supporting international intermodal import and export operations across North America.
- Prior experience working with U.S. West Coast gateway ports, particularly the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach (LA/LB), is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with:
o Customs processes and documentation
o Port operations and ocean carrier coordination
- Knowledge of industry regulations (i.e., FRA, IMO guidelines)
