DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represents the President & C.E.O. and administrative personnel in a staff capacity for the Centre when designated in charge.
- Provides professional leadership, instruction and direction to the team of nursing support staff in the provision of nursing care to the Residents. This will involve delegation of workloads, authorization of overtime and replacing absent staff members.
- Takes appropriate emergency measures on a facility-wide basis in the event of a fire, safety, security or health emergency, thereby ensuring the safety and security of Residents, staff, visitors and the premises.
- Implements Nurse Call, Fire, and Security Emergency procedures outlined for the Millennium Pavilion.
- Provides direct nursing care as required in the provision of Resident Care Services.
- Assists in the planning and development of Resident Care services and programs.
- Coordinates team assignments.
- Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by attending physicians.
- Participates in the orientation program, inservice programs and staff development programs as directed.
- Promotes and maintains appropriate and effective communication with Residents, department staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team, Resident’s families, attending physicians, volunteers and visitors.
- Ensures nursing support staff adhere to all directives, policies, procedures, rules, regulations and Acts pertaining to the operation of St. Michael’s Long Term Care Centre and the Resident Care Services department.
- Recommends changes and assists in the development of new procedures and techniques.
- Participates in Resident Care Conferences.
- Provides education to Residents in accordance with the overall care plan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A graduate of a recognized School of Nursing.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and/or a related health care discipline from a recognized university is preferred.
- Certificate in supervisory development/nursing administration/Gerontological Nursing is highly desirable.
- C.P.R. Heartsaver Plus certification is required.
- A minimum of three to five year’s recent nursing experience, including a minimum of two years supervisory experience is required.
- Recent experience with case management (public health, home care) is required; however, other combinations of equivalent experience may be considered.
- Computer proficiency is preferred.
- Active registration status with the CRNA is required.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Effective leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of the English language is required and knowledge of the Ukrainian or other Slavic languages is an asset.
