The successful candidate must meet the prequalification, educational and relevant requirements for the Plumbing and Gas discipline as prescribed by the Alberta Safety Codes Council and possess a Class 5 Drivers License.
Plumbing and Gas Discipline:
- Journeyperson plumber certification and five years of relevant work experience as a journeyperson plumber; or
- Journeyperson plumber certification recognized in Alberta and three years of relevant work experience as a journeyperson plumber; and
- Journeyperson gasfitter certification with five years of relevant experience as a journeyperson gasfitter.
Candidates must have a valid Certificate of Competency as a Plumbing Safety Codes Officer Group A, (installations), Group B (PSDS), and Gas Safety Codes Officer Group A (installations). Certifications must be maintained, and training upgraded in accordance with the requirements of the Alberta Safety Codes Council. A minimum of three (3) years’ experience conducting Safety Codes inspections of residential structures is considered an asset. The Safety Codes Officer must be able to work in a high work volume, sensitive environment that requires tact, diplomacy, accuracy, judgement and strong communication and problem-solving skills to ensure safety compliance and strong customer service. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write technical reports is required. Excellent coordination, work scheduling and time management skills are essential. The incumbent will need to have strong competencies in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook as well as GIS and City software.
Hours of Work: This position is casual in nature and therefore the number of hours cannot be forecasted.
