We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our team for a fixed term contract-maternity leave coverage. The HR Generalist will be responsible for managing various HR functions and providing support to employees across the organization. This is a key role that requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Core Job Responsibilities
· Management and employee training programs; ongoing coaching and support
· Job posting, resume screening, interviewing, hiring and onboarding new team members
· Handle all administrative tasks for onboarding, new hire orientations, and exit interviews; including data entry into HRIS and audits for accuracy/compliance
· Provide a dedicated and effective advisory service to all staff that covers absence, performance, health issues, conduct and capability, grievances, organizational change and all other employee related matters
· Be the primary back up for payroll processing, including semimonthly updates to employee files, bonus/incentive pay, vacation/sick pay, vehicle allowances and benefits changes
· Active involvement in the Health & Safety Committee including processing any Worksafe/WCB claims
· Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping human resource information confidential
· Maintains technical knowledge and up-to-date information on changes in Employment Standards and Canadian employment law
· Assists in the communication, interpretation and upkeep of the employee guide, employee directory and contribute to policy development and implementation
Required Competencies
· Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Human Resources, business or directly related field
· CPHR designation preferred
· Payroll processing experience is preferred
· Familiarity with HR software (Workforce Now) and intermediate MS Office/Excel skills
· Strong recruitment skills
· Foundational knowledge of Canadian labor laws; BC and Alberta
· Proven success working in an HR Department
· Resourceful mindset and strong attention to detail
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ethics and cultural awareness
· A passion for helping people fulfil their goals
· Aptitude for problem solving; thorough knowledge of HR procedures and policies
· A high degree of both organizational skills and confidentiality
