Job Description - Marketing Specialist
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer and/or designate
Term: Full-time, Permanent (35 hours/week)
Location: In-Person at OBIA’s Office (preferred)
Job Purpose and Overview
The Marketing Specialist will play a key role in supporting OBIA’s communications, marketing, and awareness-building efforts. This position is responsible for creating and coordinating content across social media, websites, newsletters, e-blasts, print materials, and the OBIA Review magazine. The role requires a creative, organized, and detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple priorities, support events and campaigns, monitor communications performance, and help ensure OBIA’s messaging is engaging, consistent, and aligned with its mission to educate, raise awareness, and support the brain injury community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Social Media and Websites
- Manage all OBIA’s social media platforms (create content, schedule posts regularly, respond/refer requests through social media).
- Grow OBIA’s social media presence and expand its reach.
- Compile post ideas/information and schedule posts accordingly.
- Monitor the effectiveness of social media communications and adjust as necessary.
- Share posts created by others (i.e. Awards of Excellence, Brain Injury Awareness Month, HeadsupCAN podcasts, and other shared causes as appropriate).
- Gather information for posting to OBIA’s main site and ensure that all information on the site is current.
- Go through the OBIA’s websites regularly to ensure that all information is up to date.
- Upload current material to OBIA’s website (OBIA Review, Training, Events, and other pages as required).
- Support the Provincial ABI Conference by updating the website and developing social media and promotional materials.
2. OBIA Review
- In collaboration with the OBIA Review Planning Team, lead the strategic planning for the OBIA Review content and quarterly themes.
- Design the layout and choose stock imagery to accompany each article and cover page of the OBIA Review utilizing OBIA’s brand (the final decision on the cover page is made by the CEO).
- Ensure that the OBIA Review accurately reflects OBIA’s commitment to serving three key audiences (survivors, caregivers, and professionals) and its three tenets (education, awareness, and support).
- Edit OBIA Review Articles to correct spelling and grammar errors and share a revised copy with the OBIA Review Planning Team for further edits.
- Provide the contracted printing company with appropriately formatted pre-press materials.
- Distribute hard copies of the magazine via Canada Post Publications Mail to members and via courier to Directory members (prepare labels/shipping documents).
- Prepare a PDF version of the magazine to distribute to members and upload to the website
3. Collaterals
- Coordinate and manage print collateral, including design and content updates, reprints, and inventory management (various brochures and marketing materials for Support Services, Training Programs, Annual Reports, Biennial Conferences and Events).
- Create all branded materials for OBIA events (social media posts, Zoom headers, Constant Contact headers, e-blast materials, advertisements), created using Canva.
- Create all branded OBIA materials (newsletter, training brochures, AGM reports, information brochures, posters, electronic signatures) using Adobe InDesign or another graphic design software.
4. E-blasts and Mailings
- In collaboration with the management team, develop and implement an email marketing strategy to support all OBIA programs and initiatives, including support services, training, conferences, special events, fund development, seasonal campaigns, and organizational communications.
- Create, schedule, and distribute email communications through Constant Contact, including e-blasts, the monthly OBIA News and Updates, The Voice newsletter, the OBIA Review magazine, and other organizational communications.
- Develop and maintain email distribution and mailing lists for digital communications and third-party print mailings, ensuring contact information remains accurate and up to date.
- Monitor and analyze email campaign performance, using metrics and insights to optimize engagement and continuously improve future communications.
5. Google Ad Marketing
- Develop, implement, and optimize Google Ads campaigns to increase website traffic, raise awareness of organizational programs and services, and support marketing, fundraising, and advocacy initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze campaign performance using Google Ads and Google Analytics, prepare performance reports with actionable insights, and continuously refine keywords, ad copy, targeting, and budgets to improve campaign effectiveness.
6. Analysis and Reporting
- Analyze the performance of communication efforts through metrics and feedback.
- Prepare regular reports to evaluate the success of communication strategies and suggest improvements.
7. Other
- Report an update on all aspects of the job responsibility to the CEO and/or designate
- Provide updates to the OBIA team about upcoming campaigns and marketing initiatives
- Assume such other duties as assigned by the CEO and/or designate.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma/degree or equivalent comprehensive work experience in a related field such as marketing, graphic design, communications, or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position with demonstrable technical skills in marketing, communications, or public relations and special project/event
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong initiation and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated creativity and experience in social media
- Demonstrated familiarity with online communications trends
- Up-to-date with new software/technology and social media, trends and content management systems.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Graphic design skills and experience with relevant software
- Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing best practices.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude under pressure
- Experience in writing press releases
- Experience working within the not-for-profit sector
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills and attention to detail
- Ability to determine priorities, be self-directed and work with minimal supervision
Other:
- This is an in-person position at the organization’s physical location.
- Travel within Ontario may occasionally be required for outreach, collaboration, presentations, or community engagement
