We are currently seeking a
Water Resources Specialist to join our Edmonton team. This position is well suited to a technically focused engineer, engineering technologist, or professional licensee with 2–4 years of relevant experience and an interest in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater management, drainage analysis, and municipal infrastructure planning. The role includes developing and reviewing water resources models, preparing technical reports and supporting documentation, assisting with regulatory and municipal submissions, and coordinating with project managers, engineers, technologists, and technical staff. What You’ll Do
You will support the delivery of high-quality water resources and municipal engineering solutions across the Edmonton region while developing your modelling, technical analysis, and project coordination skills. Key responsibilities include:
Water Resources Modelling & Technical Analysis
- Develop, update, and review hydrologic and hydraulic models to support stormwater management, drainage, flood assessment, water distribution, and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Assist in the preparation of stormwater management reports, drainage plans, technical memoranda, calculations, and supporting documentation for municipal and regulatory submissions.
- Use modelling and design tools such as PCSWMM, SWMM, HEC-RAS, MIKE Urban or Mike +, WaterCAD, Civil 3D, and related software to support project analysis and design.
- Analyze existing and proposed drainage systems, storm sewer networks and overland flow routes.
- Support project managers and senior technical staff with engineering assessments, feasibility reviews, design alternatives, and responses to municipal or client comments.
- Assist with field reviews, data collection, construction support, and coordination with internal teams, municipalities, contractors, and external stakeholders as required.
What You Bring
- A degree or diploma in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline from a recognized institution, supported by practical experience in water resources modelling, stormwater management, drainage analysis, or municipal infrastructure projects.
- Registration, or eligibility for registration, with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training, Professional Engineer, Professional Technologist (P.Tech.), or Professional Licensee (Engineering) P.L.(Eng.).
- 2–4 years of relevant experience applying hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, stormwater management, drainage analysis, or municipal infrastructure knowledge to practical project work.
- Proficiency with modelling and design software such as PCSWMM, SWMM, HEC-RAS, MIKE Urban, Mike+ WaterCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar tools.
- Operating knowledge of GIS systems would be an asset.
- Strong technical writing, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
- A practical, detail-oriented approach to engineering analysis, with an interest in developing well-supported, constructible solutions for clients and communities.
