Position:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer or designate, the Employment & Training Supervisor is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and delivery of Walpole Island First Nation’s Employment and Training programs. This role ensures programs are delivered effectively, align with the Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Program (ISETP) agreement, and support community members in achieving sustainable employment and career development outcomes.
The Supervisor provides strategic direction, oversees program operations, manages staff, and ensures compliance with funding agreements, while upholding the values, philosophy, and goals of Walpole Island First Nation.
Requirements:
Education
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Social Services, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in employment and training, career development, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience in program planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Experience writing funding proposals and reports.
Other
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Responsibilities:
Program Leadership and Delivery
- Provide overall supervision and direction for Employment and Training programs, services, and staff.
- Ensure programs and services align with ISETP agreement requirements and community priorities.
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of training programs, workshops, and employment initiatives.
- Ensure a holistic, client-centred approach to career development and employment supports.
- Monitor program performance and outcomes, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
- Track and evaluate program success using established service standards and reporting metrics.
Funding, Planning, and Financial Management
- Develop and implement the Annual Operational Plan (AOP) in alignment with strategic priorities and funding agreements.
- Prepare, manage, and monitor program budgets in collaboration with Finance.
- Track expenditures and ensure responsible and strategic allocation of ISETP funding.
- Identify funding opportunities and prepare proposals to expand programming and services.
- Ensure all financial and program reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.
Partnerships and Community Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, external agencies, training providers, and employers.
- Identify and develop partnerships to enhance employment and training opportunities for community members.
- Represent WIFN at career fairs, community events, and external meetings.
- Promote programs and services to ensure strong participation and community awareness.
Staff Supervision and Development
- Supervise, mentor, and support Employment and Training staff.
- Assign and delegate work based on staff roles, strengths, and program needs.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Support staff development through training, goal setting, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Foster a respectful, supportive, and culturally grounded work environment.
Program Administration and Compliance
- Ensure accurate and complete client records and reporting through systems such as ARMS.
- Maintain compliance with all funding agreements, policies, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure all required documentation is collected and maintained for program participants.
- Review and update program policies and procedures on a regular basis.
- Oversee payroll input and approvals for program staff and participants, as required.
