About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a mother living independently in a three-bedroom confederation log home in Buckhorn, Ontario. She values her independence and wishes to remain in her home, though she faces challenges with stairs and mobility that make certain household tasks difficult. Following the loss of her spouse, she experiences loneliness and would benefit greatly from companionship alongside practical support. Trust is very important to her, so patience and a warm, understanding approach are essential.
Responsibilities:
The primary focus will be housekeeping and companionship. This includes cleaning the home (sinks, toilets, general tidying), doing laundry in the basement, and maintaining a clean, comfortable living environment. While this role centers on household tasks, the ideal caregiver will also provide meaningful social interaction and conversation, helping to ease feelings of isolation. The home is not cluttered but requires regular maintenance that the client can no longer manage independently due to mobility limitations.
What We're Looking For:
We need someone who makes the client feel comfortable and safe, with a calm and patient demeanor. Reliability and consistency are crucial, as is clear communication with family members. The ideal caregiver will have experience with household management, take initiative when needed, and respect the client's independence while providing necessary support. English-speaking caregivers are required. Experience working with seniors who value their autonomy and need companionship is highly valued. Given the rural location in Buckhorn, caregivers should be comfortable with travel from nearby areas like Peterborough or Bobcaygeon.
Schedule:
We're looking for approximately 6 hours per week, which can be structured as either one 6-hour visit weekly for a thorough deep clean, or two 3-hour visits for ongoing maintenance. The schedule is flexible and can be adjusted based on what works best for both the caregiver and the family. This is a short-term arrangement initially, with potential to extend based on how well the arrangement meets everyone's needs. Preferred days and times can be discussed to accommodate the caregiver's availability while ensuring consistent support for the client.
