CMHA Kamloops is seeking compassionate, collaborative, and confident leaders to help launch our new 54-unit Transitional Housing Program at 1453 McGill Road.
As a Cultural & Transitional Support Team Lead, you'll play a key role in shaping a new program from the ground up. Working closely with the Manager of Transitional Housing, you'll provide day-to-day leadership to frontline staff while supporting residents experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance use concerns.

About the McGill Project
The McGill Project is a 54-unit transitional housing program that provides temporary housing and individualized supports to adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Services are delivered using Housing First, person-centred, trauma-informed, culturally safe, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented practices. Working alongside residents, Indigenous communities, healthcare providers, and community partners, we support individuals in building stability, developing life skills, and successfully transitioning to long-term housing.
The Opportunity
As the Cultural & Transitional Support Team Lead, you will provide operational leadership during your shift while working alongside the frontline team.
You will coordinate daily activities, support staff, respond to complex situations, promote culturally safe and trauma-informed practices, and help ensure residents receive consistent, high-quality support.
This is a working leadership position that combines frontline resident support with shift coordination, coaching, and program operations.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Coordinate day-to-day operations and provide leadership during assigned shifts.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and day-to-day support to Cultural & Transitional Support Workers.
- Promote a safe, respectful, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented environment for residents and staff.
- Respond to complex resident situations, behavioural concerns, crises, and emergencies using trauma-informed and harm reduction approaches.
- Support resident engagement, life skills development, housing stability, and community integration.
- Monitor program operations, complete shift reports, and ensure accurate documentation.
- Assist with staff orientation, training, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Case Managers, the Manager of Transitional Housing, Indigenous organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners.
- Ensure program policies, procedures, and safety standards are consistently followed.
- Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and compassion.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working in supportive housing, homelessness services, mental health, substance use, or community social services.
- Enjoys mentoring and supporting others while leading by example.
- Demonstrates excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Can remain calm and make sound decisions in crisis situations.
- Builds trusting relationships through trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centred practice.
- Works collaboratively while also being comfortable making decisions independently.
- Demonstrates cultural humility and a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
- Has strong organizational, documentation, and computer skills.
Qualifications
- Diploma, certificate, or degree in Human Services, Social Services, Community Support, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two years of related experience in supportive housing, homelessness services, mental health, substance use, or community social services.
- Experience providing leadership, mentoring, coaching, or informal supervision is considered an asset.
- Current First Aid & CPR.
- FoodSafe certification.
- Criminal Record Check.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Access to reliable transportation (where required).
Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and the ongoing impacts of colonization is considered a strong asset.
