Winright Law is looking for an experienced private sector accountant or an early-career accountant with the drive to develop their skills and grow into the position of Controller, overseeing the financial operations of our growing law firm.
This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys balancing strategic financial planning with hands-on accounting. You'll work closely with the firm's leadership team, helping guide financial decisions, improve processes, and ensure the firm continues to operate efficiently as we grow.
We are open to part-time or full-time candidates, depending on the successful applicant's experience and availability.
What You'll Be Doing
As our Financial Controller, you will oversee the firm's accounting function while providing financial leadership and operational support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Oversee the firm's day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial records and timeliness of reporting
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Monitor accounts receivable, billing performance, and overall financial health
- Oversee Law Society trust accounting compliance and reconciliations
- Supervise and support the firm's Accounting Assistant and coordinate with external bookkeeping professionals
- Review bookkeeping work to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Work with our external accountant during year-end reporting and tax preparation
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiency
- Provide financial reporting, analysis, and recommendations to support firm leadership and strategic decision-making
- Maintain and optimize our accounting systems, including Soluno
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is an experienced finance professional who enjoys building efficient systems, solving problems, and helping a growing business succeed.
Qualifications include:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership position
- CPA designation is preferred but not required for candidates with significant relevant experience
- Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment is considered a strong asset
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls
- Experience supervising accounting staff and managing external bookkeeping or accounting resources
- Experience using Soluno or similar legal accounting software is an asset
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with leadership

Pay: $85,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
