About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver to support a father living with advanced Alzheimer's disease in Waterloo. He has very limited language abilities (approximately ten words) and requires supervision for safety throughout the day. While he remains relatively physically healthy and enjoys going on walks, he has lost bowel control and needs assistance with toileting and personal hygiene. His wife currently serves as his primary caregiver and would greatly benefit from professional support to help manage his care needs.
Responsibilities:
The caregiver will provide hands-on personal care including toileting assistance and hygiene support. Supervision is essential as the client may attempt to leave the home independently and has experienced falls during walks. The caregiver should be prepared to accompany him on walks and assist with safely returning home. Cognitive support through redirection and gentle guidance will be needed throughout shifts. The primary goal is to provide the wife with meaningful respite while ensuring the client's safety and dignity are maintained at all times.
What We're Looking For:
We need an experienced caregiver with demonstrated skills in Alzheimer's and dementia care. Serbian or Croatian language ability is strongly preferred, as this will help with communication and comfort. The ideal candidate should be calm, patient, and skilled in personal care tasks including toileting assistance. Experience with clients who have cognitive impairments and wandering behaviors is essential. The caregiver must be physically capable of supporting a 240-pound individual during walks and transfers if needed. Reliability and strong communication with the family are important priorities.
Schedule:
We're looking for flexible coverage starting with approximately 16 hours per week, potentially structured as four days per week at four hours per shift. The schedule may increase in the coming months, particularly when the wife has an upcoming surgery and will need more comprehensive support. We're open to discussing the specific days and times that work best. The family is seeking someone who can start within the next four weeks and is open to building a long-term relationship as care needs evolve.
