TRANSITIONAL SUPPORT WORKER
(1 full-time, Temporary position available)
About the position:
McMan’s Supported Independent Living Program is seeking an experienced and compassionate Transitional Support Worker to help youth build the skills, confidence, and resilience needed for successful independent living. In this rewarding role, you will support youth aged 16 to 22 as they navigate the transition to adulthood and overcome challenges that may include mental health concerns, substance use, homelessness, developmental disabilities, and other complex life circumstances.
The successful candidate will be skilled at building meaningful relationships, fostering trust, and empowering youth to achieve their personal goals. Working within the community and/or one of our Bridges buildings, you will provide individualized support, advocacy, and guidance that helps youth develop life skills, strengthen their independence, and create positive futures.
This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension. Position ends March 1, 2027.
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday; flexibility is required to meet the needs of the youth; some evening or weekend work may be needed at times. An on-call rotation every 7-9 weeks for one week, 24 hours per day.
Location: Edmonton, Alberta and Surrounding areas
What you’ll do:
- Meet with youth in the community or in their homes
- Promote community inclusion by engaging in a variety of community activities with the youth and connecting them to resources
- Be responsible for case planning, management and documentation
- Assisting youth in developing a variety of life skills
- Work from a trauma informed lens
- Participate in on-going program development
What you bring:
- Completion of a Degree/Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology
- Equivalencies may be considered
- Please note that applicants with a degree or diploma in Social Work from a university accredited by the Alberta College of Social Workers are required to be registered with the College (RSW) before starting or obtain registration within three months of hire
- Six (6) months’ experience directly working with youth
- Police Information Check; including Vulnerable Persons Sector Check (from within the last 6 months)
- Children Services Intervention Record Check (from within the last 6 months)
- Emergency First Aid — Level C CPR + AED
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with 3 years of experience, current drivers abstract, reliable vehicle and 2 million dollars third party liability auto insurance are required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build relationships with youth and manage crisis; desire to see youth succeed
- Ability to assist individuals with complex behaviors and developmental disabilities
- CARE (Children and Residential Experiences) training is an asset
- Excellent time management and organizational skills; able to work independently
