Anticipated Start Date: July 6th 2026 (8 weeks)
Reports to: Community and Client Relations Manager
Job Responsibilities
- Provide recreation and activation services to support and foster the resident’s quality of life
- Plan, organize, implement and directly provide appropriate resident centred activity and restorative choices on a daily basis
- Identify needs of residents and consequently organize and provide craft, recreation, physical fitness, therapeutic and cognitive stimulation programs for individuals, small and large groups accordingly; to be innovative in adapting these activities to meet the special needs of individual residents
- Assist the residents to maintain lifetime hobbies and crafts, and encourage them to share this knowledge with others in the facility, and in some cases with those from the community
- Maintain appropriate department records including assessments, resident activity response and feedback detailing anticipated individual participation; maintain awareness of residents’ conditions and identify changes
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a retirement setting/ or interest in working with older adults and supporting their quality of life through recreation and social activities.
- Enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related field with the intent to successfully complete the program within three years of being hired.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to motivate and engage individuals and groups in activities and programs
- Friendly, compassionate, and professional manner with a willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet applications
- Ability to adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of participants
- Previous volunteer, work, or educational experience with seniors, persons with disabilities, or community programs is considered an assetCandidate Requirements (Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility)
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
The nature of this position will require the successful candidate to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Background Check before the commencement of employment.
