J. Hart Hydraulics specializes in the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of hydraulic systems used in cranes, boom trucks, dump trucks, compactors, refuse equipment, construction equipment, and other heavy-duty machinery.
We are seeking an experienced Hydraulic Technician who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems, solving challenging mechanical and electrical problems, and taking pride in delivering quality workmanship. Position Summary
The Hydraulic Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and rebuilding hydraulic systems and components used in heavy-duty mobile equipment.
The successful candidate will possess strong hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical/wiring skills, with solid troubleshooting ability, and be capable of performing both shop and field service work while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
**421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification is required, or the candidate must be willing and able to obtain it.**
Hydraulic Systems & Component Repair
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic system failures, leaks, malfunctions, and performance issues
- Repair and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, valves, power units, and related components
- Assemble and disassemble hydraulic systems and components for inspection, cleaning, repair, and replacement
- Conduct hydraulic testing to identify root causes of equipment failures
- Replace hoses, fittings, seals, bearings, and hydraulic plumbing components
- Take ownership of assigned jobs from diagnosis through completion and documentation
Electrical & Wiring
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults related to hydraulic and equipment control systems
- Perform wiring repairs, replacements, and terminations to a professional standard
- Troubleshoot switches, sensors, solenoids, control circuits, and related components
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams and electrical schematics
- Ensure all electrical work is completed safely and to a professional standard
Equipment Service & Diagnostics
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on cranes, boom trucks, heavy equipment, dump trucks, compactors, refuse equipment, and related machinery
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and control systems
- Troubleshoot engine, transmission, drivetrain, and electronic control system issues as required
- Conduct equipment inspections Annually for certification and intermittently for maintenance to identify maintenance requirements, deficiencies and the repair of items noted.
- Use diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and testing equipment to support repairs
- Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
Fabrication & Mechanical Repair
- Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required
- Assist with heavy truck and equipment repairs
- Fabricate and install hydraulic piping, mounting brackets, and related components
- Reframes, frame extensions, rechassis, box repairs, boom repairs, deck repairs etc.
Shop & Field Service
- Respond to customer service calls and equipment breakdowns
- Perform on-site diagnostics and repairs at customer locations when required
- Work with other technicians to complete jobs efficiently
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, labour entries, and work orders
- Communicate repair findings and recommendations to customers and management
Safety & Quality
- Follow company procedures
- Perform and document annual safety inspections as required
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
- Complete repairs safely, efficiently, and to a high quality standard
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification required, or willingness and ability to obtain it
- Red Seal or equivalent trade certification considered a strong asset
- Hydraulic systems training or certification considered an asset
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems on heavy equipment, cranes, vocational trucks, refuse equipment, agricultural equipment, or industrial machinery
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and fluid power principles
- Proven proficiency in electrical wiring, diagnostics, and repair on mobile or industrial equipment
- Experience servicing mobile hydraulic equipment
- Experience with diesel engines considered an asset
Skills & Abilities
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and wiring diagrams
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and diagnostic equipment
- Confident and competent with wiring repairs and electrical fault diagnosis
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Valid Class G driver’s licence required
- DZ or AZ licence considered an asset

- Mobile cranes

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical work throughout the day
- Available for overtime and occasional emergency service calls
