What is the Flex Team?
Are you ready to expand your nursing expertise across diverse care settings? The 5B/NICU Flex Team offers a unique opportunity to develop a valued skill set foundational to both inpatient care on the 5B General Surgery and Gynecology Unit and critical care in the NICU.
As part of the Flex Team, you will begin with 1 year of focused training on 5B, followed by a year-long training program in the NICU. Upon completion, you will flex between both units, supporting their dynamic needs while building capacity and resilience in these critical care areas.
This innovative model emphasizes professional growth and enhanced patient care by:

Cross-training nurses to effectively transition between NICU and 5B, ensuring flexibility and optimal staffing during patient surges.
-
Strengthening critical care nursing skills to provide exceptional care for critically ill patients and their families.
-
Leveraging patient population similarities to streamline transitions, enhance continuity of care, and improve patient outcomes.
-
Supporting seamless patient flow between the NICU and 5B, reducing delays and optimizing access to care.
-
Increasing ventilator-trained staff to bolster surge capacity and hospital preparedness.
By joining the Flex Team, you will not only advance your clinical competencies but also contribute to a culture of excellence in family-centered care. This role is designed to promote professional development, improve job satisfaction, and ensure exceptional patient experiences.
What types of patients does 5B typically care for?
5B cares for patients specifically under the surgical services of general surgery and gynecology. Staff are encouraged to grow and contribute through practice, education, and research, as we support continued professional development and ongoing opportunities. We are a highly collaborative team-based unit, that provide excellence in surgical pediatric care!
What kinds of patients can be expected in the NICU?
