ROLE OVERVIEW
The Director of Operations will provide operational leadership for a large, technically sophisticated organization based in Montreal, Quebec. This highly visible role will be responsible for shop-floor operations, people leadership, safety, quality, turnaround time, productivity, cost, continuous improvement, and overall operating performance.
Reporting to senior leadership, the Director will lead an experienced organization of supervisors, engineers, skilled tradespeople, technicians, and other technical professionals while partnering closely with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Finance, and broader operational leadership.
The organization is experiencing significant growth and requires a leader who can strengthen operating discipline, develop leadership capability, improve processes, and build the scalable structure necessary to support continued expansion. The successful candidate will be a visible, hands-on leader who can establish credibility with an experienced workforce while creating greater accountability, collaboration, and consistency across the operation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead day-to-day operations in alignment with business objectives, production requirements, and customer commitments.
- Drive performance across Health and Safety, Quality, turnaround time, productivity, cost, and delivery.
- Lead and develop supervisors and a large technical and skilled-trades workforce.
- Champion workplace organization, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage departmental budgets, workforce and resource planning, and capital investment initiatives.
- Maintain constructive relationships within a unionized workforce and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
- Partner across Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and other operational functions to support new capabilities and broader business priorities.
REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of progressive operational leadership experience within a complex, highly regulated technical, industrial, manufacturing, maintenance, or service environment; aviation or aerospace experience is valued but not required.
- Proven success leading large technical, skilled-trades, or shop-floor organizations.
- Direct accountability for operational KPIs, including safety, quality, turnaround time, productivity, cost, and delivery.
- Strong knowledge of operational improvement, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, develop teams, and build credibility across all levels of an organization.
- Experience operating within a unionized environment is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related discipline—or equivalent industry experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
- French-language capability is an asset; a willingness to learn is expected.
Pay: $160,000.00-$200,000.00 per year
