Position Summary:
The Mental Health/Harm Reduction Educator will be a key leader in the development of mental
health, and harm reduction programming at Mount Allison University. This position will develop
and implement, on a cross-institutional basis, new programming and outreach efforts so as to
further the progress of mental health literacy and harm reduction education, and awareness on
campus.

Hours of Work: This is a full-time term position from January, 2019 to May, 2019 and August,
2019 to December, 2019.

Position Description

A. Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and advance sustainable educational outreach campaigns targeted at key areas of
student need in collaboration with other Student Affairs staff based on related research
support and analysis;

  • Develop and coordinate, in conjunction with key staff members, a strategic awareness
campaign and training modules aimed at campus wide promotion of mental health,
wellness, and harm reduction;

  • Take a leadership role in developing policy, procedure, and/or protocols regarding the use of
cannabis on campus. This will be a collaborative effort with the intention of working with
other campuses and relevant stakeholders;

  • Coordinate a formal gathering of university students and administrators from across the
province to facilitate awareness, collaboration, and communication across campuses
regarding cannabis and harm reduction;

  • Administer collection and analysis of data to determine the effectiveness of the impact of all
projects to assess program efficacy;

  • Identify strategic external partners and work collaboratively with them and university
stakeholders to facilitate partnerships that enhance effective student wellness service
delivery, awareness and promotion;

  • Maintain and suggest updates to mental health and wellness policies and procedures on
campus

  • Create positive mental health practice awareness in building healthy relationships,
interactions, and routines to faculty, staff and students;

  • Develop and deliver mental health, wellness, and harm reduction programming and
initiatives to both residence and off-campus students, targeted in a way that will attract
participation

  • Create resources to deliver and/or coordinate the delivery of group sessions and workshops
on a wide range of wellness and personal management topics which help students adjust to
a successful University experience;

  • Act as a resource on mental health, wellness, and harm reduction campaigns to student
groups, faculty, and staff within the university community;

  • Submit reports to the Director as required through the year on project activities and findings.
B. Qualifications

  • Minimum of a university degree in a related discipline (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Health
Promotion, Addictions, Harm Reduction, etc.)

  • 3 years experience or advanced diploma in the field of Mental Health, Health Promotion,
Addictions, Harm Reduction or recognized equivalencies preferred

  • Thorough knowledge of current theories and practices related to mental health and harm
reduction

  • Experience in coordination of outreach and/or educational programs; experience with
hands-on teaching methods preferred

  • Excellent program/project management and coordination skills, incl. ability to track and
evaluate program/project progress and success

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity; must be self-motivated
  • An understanding of the needs of post-secondary education-aged students
  • Ability to recognize the sensitivity of issues and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Experience and knowledge of programs and services in an educational institution is an
asset
  • Ability to work successfully within a team environment and independently
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint coupled with online research skills
