The Senior Business Systems Analyst is a key liaison between business clients and IT areas regarding highly complex projects for enhancements or new development. The incumbent plays an integral role by employing an in-depth understanding of the business functions and processes, and application of technology, to articulate and analyze client requirements, deliver clear and concise documentation and functional specifications, and work with development teams to affect solutions. At this senior level, the Senior Business Systems Analyst participates in or leads projects that involve multiple integrated systems and business areas and are high complexity and risk. Also, as a senior member of a project team, the incumbent contributes to standards and provides guidance and mentorship to other business systems analysts.
- In depth understanding of Agile principles and guidelines are required.
- Story writing and testing User Stories along with working knowledge of Acceptance Test Driven Development or Test-Driven Development (ATDD/TDD) are required.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Gherkin, Feature Files, Microsoft SQL, Test automation framework (Playwright) and AI Enabled tools (MS Copilot) is an asset.
- Participate in the development of business cases and other information needed by management to select and prioritize business and technical systems initiatives, working with business and IT managers, project managers, application architects and solution designers.
- May oversee medium-to-large sized projects, including task delegation, scope control, adherence to schedule and budget, management of changes/issues/risks, and communications/reporting activities.
- For highly complex projects/initiatives, engage stakeholders and facilitate large- group sessions with business partners and other BSAs across business lines to gather, document, and validate detailed requirements, eliciting the essential needs of the system and stakeholder expectations.
- Manage and support business process design activities, working with process stakeholders and employing sophisticated tools to perform detailed definition and analysis of business functions and processes, ensuring that requirements for modified systems/processes meet business needs, and that appropriate process documentation and training exists.
- Lead the review, assessment and selection of solutions, as well as configuration and customization design decisions, acting as intermediary between client and IT teams and guiding a team of BSAs in technical solution design activities (e.g. clarifying requirements, refining/documenting data and business rules, communicating technology constraints, creating proposals and negotiating alternative solutions, and defining recommendations).
- For complex system testing, act as test analyst, including developing or reviewing detailed test plans/cases/scripts/practices for completeness, coordinating efforts of multiple testers (such as other BSAs) during execution, and managing resolution of any defects encountered during testing to ensure that requirements are met.
- Participate in implementations as required, providing guidance and verification.
- Play a lead role in the continuous improvement of the BSA practice by researching best practices, devising improvements, piloting new techniques, and creating more effective processes (e.g. streamlining testing processes).
- Degree or diploma in Business or Computer Science with at least 5 -7 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Designation in business analysis and/or project management.
- Advanced knowledge of business analysis practices, especially requirements planning, elicitation, management, design, analysis, documentation, and communication.
- Advanced knowledge of SDLC methodologies, processes, and tools as well as project planning methodologies and Lean process improvement tools and techniques.
- Insurance and Financial Services experience along with Acord XML Insurance Standards would be an asset..

Salary information
Expected salary range $72,847 - $121,411
Salary placement
The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.
Incentive/Variable pay
