Title: Accountant - Term
Location: 1645 Inkster Blvd, Winnipeg MB R2x2W7
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Member Accounting Department, the successful incumbent is responsible for the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements of assigned Member Co-operatives. In addition, the person will provide day-to-day support to Co-op staff in recording of transactions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare timely financial statements that present fairly the financial position of assigned Co-operatives. Due dates are set by the department.
- Ensure reports required from the Co-operatives for the monthly financial statements preparation are done by the Co-op and received on time.
- Maintain complete working papers (electronic when possible), and necessary back-up documentation.
- Analyze and review financial statements for reasonableness. Ensure balances are correct and information is complete.
- Prepare year-end financial statements with supporting working papers and back-ups, ready for review by the outside accountants.
- Assist outside accountants during their review of year-end financial statements.
- Prepare preliminary analysis reports.
- Recommend internal control procedures needed at the Co-operative.
- Provide accounting support to co-operative staff including Quasar support.
- Monitor and review Co-operatives transactions for errors or discrepancies.
- Monitor and follow up inventory count schedules and cut-off.
- Monitor and enforce inventory count policy through MMS.
- Assist in Co-op Manager’s training on Quasar accounting and reporting.
- Attend to Co-ops queries from government agencies as to GST remittances, Corporate taxes and Statistics Canada.
- Prepare and submit reports required by the department.
- Travel maybe required.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in Commerce/Business with a major in Accounting. Enrolled in and working towards completion of a professional accounting designation;
- Experience with accounting and financial analysis in a computerized environment;
- Proficient in the preparation of monthly financial statements and maintenance of electronic working papers;
- Proficient in accounting and/or auditing and strong understanding of accounting principles;
- Proficiency in using accounting software programs i.e. ACCPAC, Microsoft Office Suite and some POS system;
- Proficient in developing and analyzing financial data;
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment;
- Ability to work within the budgeted time and meet deadlines;
- Strong time management skills and ability to multitask;
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Highly organized and efficient;
- Ability to travel as required;

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 18 months
Salary: $4,207.00-$4,950.00 per month
