We have an exciting opening for a Senior Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join our client's Calgary team. This is a senior, hands-on position suited to someone who can confidently carry a high-volume caseload, operate autonomously, and serve as a dependable resource across the wider team. The practice reaches well beyond standard motor vehicle matters into catastrophic injury, premises liability, aviation, sexual assault claims, long-term disability, and medical malpractice.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Carrying files through every stage of the litigation process
- Overseeing the Managing Partner's calendar, diary, and deadlines in a fast-moving environment
- Drafting pleadings, correspondence, and memoranda
- Preparing, editing, and proofreading correspondence
- Entering and maintaining data in FileVine, including tracking limitation and drop dead dates
- Scheduling questioning, mediations, pre-trials, and settlement conferences
- Handling pre and post preparation for questioning, mediations, and pre-trials
- Reviewing and assembling mediation briefs
- Making sure court filings are completed accurately and on schedule
- Keeping consistent, compassionate contact with clients
- Requisitioning cheques for invoice and court fee payments
- Supporting intake calls from prospective clients as needed
- Serving as a resource and point of support for the broader team
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications
- 3+ years of personal injury or insurance defence experience preferred. Current experience in these areas is not necessary, as long as you have handled these file types and understand the practice
- Senior-level capability, comfortable working independently and running files with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated success managing a high file volume,
- Resourceful and proactive, with the initiative to anticipate needs and resolve issues before they surface
- Strong time management, organization, accuracy, and judgment
- Highly skilled with digital file-management systems and legal technology, and quick to pick up new tools. FileVine experience is an asset
- Empathetic, with a natural ability to build rapport with clients
- Collaborative and team-minded, bringing a positive, low-drama approach and a willingness to support and mentor colleagues
- Working knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court
- Familiarity with the processes of the Office of the Public Trustee, Workers' Compensation Board, and Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund is preferred

Pay: $1,250.00-$1,800.00 per week
