The Applications Specialist is responsible for all of the College’s business applications including installation, configuration, upgrades, maintenance, security and licensing. This position is also responsible for identifying gaps to software service delivery and will design, develop and implement effective enterprise business solutions where needed to fill those gaps.

The Applications Specialist will provide 3rd level support in incident management to provide resolutions to software application issues and other requests for software service. The Applications Specialist will provide assistance in root cause analysis on all software disruptions to service. This position is also responsible for updating service support documentation as well as conducting training sessions for users.

Job Duties

Responsibilities of the Application Specialist include:
Provide analysis for supporting the enterprise business applications of the College

Design and analyze raw data in order to be able to extrapolate the raw data into usable formats for users
Provide consulting support on College wide processes and systems issues
Review business requirements for multi-functional projects offering solutions to business needs and identifies operational inefficiencies, conflicting business practices and integration issues by suggesting alternative solutions
Researches and recommends new business solutions
Prepares cost benefit analysis for alternative solutions to business problems user’s immediate issue
Research or Develop, test and implement business applications and solutions

Evaluate, install, configure and deploy new applications systems software, products and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise while ensuring system and application integrity and accuracy
Collaborate with analysts, DBAs, designers and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications
Build in house applications and systems when needed utilizing industry standard tools and programming languages in order to fill identified enterprise business application gaps
Analyze documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration of deployment to determine its intended functionality
Ensure that any new software integration into College systems meets functional requirements, system compliance and interface specifications
Conduct feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase and give advice based on findings
Perform software product evaluations
Maintain current business applications

Upgrade business enterprise applications
Provide daily support for business enterprise systems
Monitor systems by routinely checking logs and processing of special requests
Provide continuous feedback to College Departments regarding the priorities and status of work being performed within specified areas
Provide day-to-day troubleshooting of user and application issues including escalating to software providers when needed for prompt rectification of any problems or emergency outages.
Develop and deliver tactical requests and enhancements including data extracts, new process setups and offering improvements to the support process.
Inspect and resolve system problems quickly and efficiently while maintaining system security, data integrity and minimal service interruption.
Administer and maintain web-based and client-server applications, running in an Oracle, Internet/Intranet, UNIX, Linux, Solaris, Windows, and SQL Server environment
Consult with clients and technical support staff

Recommend solutions and enhancements to clients to increase productivity and improve efficiencies; drafts software change requests for clients
Analyze client requests, estimates project duration and completion dates
Consult with clients prior to implementation of system enhancements or changes
Perform lead role on project teams developing and or implementing computerized solutions to business needs
Apply and test approved changes to systems and review these with clients
Work closely with Systems Administrators, Database Administrators, Database Developers, application super users, Business Analysts and end users in the configuration and troubleshooting of all applications
Provide orientation and training to individual or group system users
Develop training / operations procedures for system users and IT Services staff
Communicate system changes to users
Write, update and maintain technical and user manuals/documentation
Required Qualifications
Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent in Computer Systems Technology or other relevant program
3-5 years relevant experience
Experience with relational databases, programming and scripting languages
Knowledge of technologies including but not limited to: data / process modeling, database reporting, business intelligence toolset, data extraction, Cognos, SQL, PL/SQL, Java, XML, HTML, Blackboard LMS & web conferencing, Drupal, Sharepoint, Mobile technology, Banner and Oracle suite of tools.
Experience in application support and development standards and tools.
Knowledge of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Internet data security and an understanding of websites, web technology, website usability standards and web content management.
