We're hiring for residential homebuilder looking for an experienced excavator operator to handle site work across their active build sites. You'll be operating our equipment to support house construction from foundation through to final grading. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in precise, clean work and understands how excavation ties into the broader build schedule.
Key Responsibilities
∙ Operate excavators and skid steers for foundation excavation, trenching for services, and site preparation
∙ Perform backfilling around foundations and services to spec, including proper compaction
∙ Execute rough and final grading to achieve required slopes, elevations, and drainage per site/lot grading plans
∙ Backfill foundations, retaining walls, and service trenches.
∙ Compact materials in accordance with project requirements.
∙ Ensure proper drainage and site stability during backfilling activities.
∙ Excavate trenches for water, sanitary, storm, electrical, and other underground services.
∙ Load, move, and place fill, gravel, and other materials on site
∙ Read and work from grading plans, site drawings, and elevation/benchmark references
∙ Identify and work safely around underground utilities; confirm locates are in place before digging
∙ Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance; report mechanical issues promptly
∙ Coordinate with site supervisors, foundation crews, and other trades to keep work sequenced and on schedule
∙ Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work site
Qualifications
∙ 3+ years of excavator operating experience, preferably in residential or low-rise construction
∙ Demonstrated skill in backfilling and final/precision grading
∙ Comfortable operating both excavators, Compact Track Loaders, Small loaders and related equipment and skid steers
∙ Ability to read grading plans and work to elevations and slopes
∙ Strong awareness of underground utility safety and locate requirements
∙ Knowledge of Ontario health and safety practices (WHMIS, site safety)
∙ Valid Ontario driver's licence, AZ or DZ License considered an asset.
∙ Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in varying weather
∙ Experience with, Foundation excavation, Utility trenching, Backfilling, Rough grading, Final grading
∙ Ability to sit and operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
∙ Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
∙ Ability to perform occasional manual labour when required.
∙ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Nice to Have
∙ Familiarity with lot servicing and foundation backfill standards
∙ Ability to operate additional equipment (loaders, compactors)
Ideal Candidate
You have 3+ years experience building residential subdivisions, understand how to excavate and grade lots correctly, can read grade stakes and engineering plans, and are comfortable taking a lot from excavation through final grading with minimal supervision. You treat equipment as if it were your own and take pride in leaving every site clean, safe, and inspection-ready.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
