The Operations Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the operational functions and performance for the area. The Operations Supervisor works closely with local plant teams to ensure alignment with all functional groups such as Environment, Land, Manufacturing, Quality and Safety to drive communication and consistency. Operations Supervisor should be in direct contact with the local area operations and become involved in the daily plant and delivery requirements. Primary focus is utilizing our resources to ensure day to day plant performance and delivery efficiency at the lowest cost. Working with the superintendents and batchers to optimize our operations while controlling costs and maintaining customer expectations.

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for providing key operational data and analysis for use in decision making for the market area. He/she will be responsible for reviewing information regarding operational cost, delivery cost and variance analysis and forecast preparation, consumption tracking (i.e. labor, fuel, and energy), capital spending status, and key performance indicators. This position will ensure processes are in place and effectively utilized across the market area (i.e. common operating reports, standard operating procedures (SOP’s)).

This role is critical to ensuring that best practices are implemented, utilized and supported. It will ensure that data and analysis is available to assist the Operations Manager and Site/ Area Managers to effectively execute their jobs in an informed manner. The Operations Supervisor will ensure consistency and best practice across the market.

Safety Culture: Promotes safety culture through engagement with employees, JHSC and subcontractors with an objective of “zero” safety incidents. Administer, promote and review safety policies, processes and procedures to maintain relevance while ensuring the site meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Attend and be actively involved in monthly safety meeting and training sessions on a regular schedule. Have ownership of the implementation and management of local and regional safety initiatives (HSIP), providing feedback as necessary. Ensures Safety initiatives are implemented.

Daily Operations: Daily communication with local plant operations, including CFOM calls. Review raw material and delivery requirements with batchers to ensure resources are available and being utilized efficiently. Promote best practices, processes and tools to ensure plant activities are optimized and costs are best in class. Ensure effectively utilization of Lafarge maintenance programs to maximize plant up-time and manage costs. Provide assistance for Preventative Maintenance scheduling to ensure maximum truck utilization at the lowest cost. Understand and work with Quality to promote the value of local quality control and ensures processes are in place to provide a quality product to our customers. Utilizes best practices in processing to ensure product remains within specifications as it is received by our customers. Work closely with mine site operations along with the local plant teams and mine site personal to ensure continued partnerships and operational strategies are maintained.

Project Operations: On site as required working with setup operations, plant operators and drivers. Communication and visits with project customer, manage and work to correct customer concerns in a timely manner, attend project meeting as needed. Manage relations with raw material suppliers to ensure efficient delivery. Communicate and work with near by operations as required to obtain necessary equipment and personal to ensure product supply to project. Work with batcher to complete reports effectively and accurately. Control internal and external maintenance and material costs

Operations Management:Assists in the development, implementation and tracking of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Assist in preparing and tracking the operational performance and action plans for the market area. Maintains tracking systems to ensure they are correct and up-to-date and work closely with plant personnel to ensure on going participation. Provide feedback to the plants to help understanding costs and within budget requirements

Operations Analysis and Action Tracking: Effectively utilizes KPIs, plant accuracy reports, financial statements and operational reports to track performance, establish effective action plans and continuously improve the operations. Uses available reports effectively to measure quality, identify variances and establish corrective action. Work with local plant personal to understand the performance issues and implement actions

Reporting, Budgeting, Forecasting and Delivery of Results: Active involvement in month end inventory reporting and reviews, work with batchers on inventory reports to ensure accurate reporting. Ensures reports are in place to effectively and accurately monitor key consumption variable such as labor, energy and fuel and raw materials. Analyze results to identify opportunities and concerns, review results with local plants. Provides consistent and effective reports for operations management. Review financial reports to understand and identify cost reduction opportunities. Develops and implements processes, strategies and tools to develop and track operational cost & variance analysis and drive financial performance. Participates in operations forecasting preparation with plant/ area managers.

Environment Management: Works with Environment team to ensure that sites meets or exceeds all Lafarge and Regulatory guidelines. Works with the Environmental Department to develop, implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.

Reports to the Operations Manager
Works closely with Manufacturing to ensure best practices and tools are fully utilized across the market area.
Works closely with Area Finance to ensure costs are budgeted, forecasted accurately
Works closely with Plant Superintendents, Batchers, Quality, and Area Safety Staff
Works closely with Land, Environmental, and Human Resources Staff
Work closely with market area coordinators/ analysts for maintenance and inventory control

Position requires travel to all locations in Northern Ontario as well as Portable Operations as required.

Education/Work Experience:
College or University Degree in Engineering or Business or the equivalent of education and experience.
A minimum of three years working in a Ready Mix plant environment, a minimum of five years Supervisory/Managerial experience.

Knowledge & Skills:
Excellent customer service skills, dedicated to meeting the expectations of internal and external customers
Understanding of general accounting principles an asset
Excellent organizational and planning skills, process-oriented
Strong analytical skills, research, problem solving and decision making
Proficiency with various computer applications is a definite asset
