We are looking for an experienced Fabrication Business Developer & Estimator to join our team. This position combines technical estimating with business development and requires someone who understands metal fabrication, welding, and industrial manufacturing.The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing project requirements, preparing accurate estimates and quotations, developing client relationships, and supporting projects from the initial RFQ through tender and project handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Review RFQs, blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and project requirements to understand the scope of work.
- Prepare detailed estimates for materials, labour, welding, equipment, machining, subcontracting, and other project costs.
- Obtain and compare pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers.
- Prepare professional quotations, bids, project schedules, and execution plans for management and client review.
- Identify new business opportunities and build strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Communicate with clients to clarify project requirements, pricing, timelines, and technical details.
- Participate in tender negotiations, client meetings, project kickoffs, and handovers to the operations team.
- Work closely with fabrication, engineering, purchasing, and operations teams to ensure estimates are accurate and achievable.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in metal fabrication, welding, manufacturing, construction, or a related industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding methods, materials, and industrial standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong estimating, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience obtaining supplier/subcontractor quotes and developing competitive bids.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating/project management software.
- Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
- Technical diploma, trade background, or equivalent combination of education and industrial experience is preferred.
- Business development or sales experience within fabrication or manufacturing is an asset.
