About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly hands-on Controller to manage the day-to-day accounting operations of a group of marine-based companies. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being deeply involved in the numbers, systems, and processes, while ensuring accuracy across multiple entities.
The Controller will take ownership of full-cycle accounting, support operational teams, and ensure timely and reliable financial information across all companies.
Key Responsibilities Day-to-Day Accounting Operations
- Perform and oversee full-cycle accounting across multiple companies
- Manage AP, AR, payroll oversight, and general ledger activities
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
- Complete monthly bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements for each entity
- Consolidate financials across companies as needed
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of reporting
- Maintain supporting schedules and working papers
Multi-Entity Management
- Handle intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations
- Maintain accurate records across multiple sets of books
- Support operational tracking (e.g., vessel costs, maintenance, fuel, etc.)
Compliance & Year-End
- Prepare working papers for external accountants and auditors
- Assist with corporate tax filings and government reporting
- Ensure compliance with CRA requirements and financial regulations
Cash Flow & Budget Support
- Monitor cash flow and assist with payment planning
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes
- Track actuals vs budget and flag variances
Process & Systems
- Maintain and improve accounting processes and workflows
- Ensure proper documentation and internal controls are followed
- Assist with system clean-up, data integrity, and reporting improvements
Qualifications
- CPA designation or equivalent experience preferred
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience (multi-entity experience strongly preferred)
- Experience in marine, construction, transportation, or similar industries is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of full-cycle accounting
- Proficient in accounting systems and Excel (pivot tables, reconciliations, etc.)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, operational environment

Pay: $120,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
