THE OPPORTUNITY
The Vista on Sparks, located in downtown Ottawa, Ontario is actively seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our growing team.
Reporting to the Director of Care, the successful incumbent in the position of Charge Nurse will be responsible for providing nursing care and services to residents, within scope of practice, and in accordance with the Resident Care plan, Company policies and procedures, and legislative/regulatory requirements.

- Schedule: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 10 shifts in a 2-week schedule, including alternating weekends

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain resident records and required documentation in compliance with all Federal/ Provincial regulations and follows the standards as set out by the College of Nursing Provincial Governing body.
- Distribute medications as prescribed, and document accordingly. Monitors the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe environment for residents and staff.
- Participate in orientation, in-service programs and on standing committees as assigned by the Director of Care.
- Liaise with family members when required and acting as a resource for questions, concerns regarding practices or related health care issues.
- Report family concerns to the Director of Care and other staff.
- Respond to resident call bells and door alarms promptly.
- Participate in initial assessments, care plans, and ongoing updates to care plans.
- Report unusual occurrences, safety hazards or illness or problems with residents to the Director of Care and other staff.
- Assume duties as required in the absence of Director of Care.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service education as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Walking, stretching and standing on a variety of surfaces for at least 3 hours per day.
- Lift alone, up to 50 pounds.
- Pushing, pulling wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Bending, stooping and climbing stairs on a regular basis.
WHO YOU ARE
- Maintain a current registration as R.P.N with the Provincial health regulatory College.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Continuously follow the principles of “good customer service” and ensure that these values are demonstrated in day-to-day practices.
- Continuously adhere to the nursing practice standards as prescribed by the Provincial health regulatory College.
- Be continually aware of, and maintain, the highest standards of professionalism by following the Company dress code and/or wearing the Company uniform.
- Effectively interact effectively within the team, residents and families as well as external service providers.
- Demonstrate solid nursing and organizational skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Previous experience with geriatric population preferred; knowledge of behavioral support programs, dementia care and rehabilitation an asset.
- Proven experience in leading unregulated care providers.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts: days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to provide a police check with vulnerable sector screen upon hire.
- Must be able to provide results of TB (tuberculosis) testing (2-step skin test or chest x-ray) upon hire.
- Must be able to provide a record of vaccination for COVID-19 (minimum 2 doses) upon hire.
