Underground Utilities:
Our Underground Utilities division is an approved City of Calgary contractor with a variety of city projects in its portfolio. Each member of North Star’s management team has over 25 years of solid industry experience, guaranteeing the highest quality of product and service. North Star has proven itself to be a successful deep utility service company capable of handling any large scale project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set manholes
- Train, mentor and develop direct reports to build a strong team.
- Perform on-site coordination of manpower, materials, and equipment to complete the project.
- Ensure all applicable environmental regulations are adhered to throughout the construction process.
- Attend project closeout meeting to ensure successful completion of projects.
- Document all pertinent project information, including weather, site conditions, employee issues, conversations with inspectors, owner’s representatives and consultant representatives and changes in scope.
- Review grade sheets for accuracy.
- Ensure that all materials are ordered with purchase orders or requisitions for materials/supplies from suppliers, parts room, yard and warehouse.
- Coordinate with Project Manager for document inspections on completed work, including prime/owner/consultants’ sign off.
- Review and submit electronic timesheets on a daily basis.
- Behaves in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, their co-workers and others on the work sites.
- Reports incidents, injuries and near misses and participates in the investigative process.
- Assists other employees when required.
- Attends and participates in toolbox and safety committee meetings as scheduled.
- Adheres to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behaviour in completing job duties and assignments.
- Complies with the standards and procedures of North Star’s health and safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Maintenance Foreman.
- Experience working in the construction industry.
- Understand elevations and grading.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, schedules and costing reports.
- Thorough understanding of construction procedures and safety practices.
- Active Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification.
- Ground Disturbance.
- Confined Space.
- Valid First Aid.
- Must have Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean current drivers abstract.
- Must have own transportation with strong knowledge of Calgary and surrounding area.
- Self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated dedication and reliability.
- Strong problem solving and decision making capabilities.
- Must be able to work as a member of a greater team.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Must be available to work long hours including evenings and weekends during the work season April to December.
- Must be physically fit to perform manual labour in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting.
- Must have CSA approved safety boots.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED, a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Additional education or work experience considered an asset.
