Our forward-thinking client is seeking to expand their technical team with a key hire: a Power Systems Engineer. This role is integral to the company’s continued success, offering the opportunity to lead power systems engineering projects from concept to completion.
Supporting a growing team and business, this role will support with design, project and construction management services to the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Rail Systems, Utility and Industrial industries within Calgary, Edmonton, and across North America.
If you hold a Degree in Electrical Engineering, are a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada and have experience with power system design software (SKM Power Tools, ETAP, SES, EasyPower, CYME), and relay programming software (SEL, GE, Basler, etc.), we want to hear from you!

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key job functions are:
- Project Leadership: Lead power systems engineering projects from concept to completion, including site visits, commissioning, and providing technical guidance.
- Protection & Coordination Support: Assist in the development of protection and coordination schemes for electrical systems, ensuring system reliability and safety.
- System Analysis & Design: Conduct load flow, short circuit, and voltage drop studies, and develop protection and coordination schemes for power systems to ensure system reliability and safety.
- Power Quality Management: Identify and address power quality issues, including harmonic distortion and voltage fluctuations.
- Long-Term Planning & Capacity Assessment: Conduct planning studies for capacity requirements and vulnerability assessments, recommending protective measures to support strategic decision-making.
- Client & Technical Liaison: Act as a technical liaison, offering expert guidance in meetings, addressing client queries, and ensuring project documentation meets industry standards.
- Team Leadership & Knowledge Sharing: Provide technical leadership to the engineering team, mentor junior engineers, and stay updated on industry trends to drive innovation.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta and British Columbia.
Qualifications:
- Valid Class 5 drivers license and passport for occasional travel.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-years of experience in power systems engineering.
- Previous field experience in industrial and electrical utility environments.
- Previous experience developing protection and coordination schemes for power systems.
- Extensive knowledge of MS Office, power system design software (SKM Power Tools, ETAP, SES, EasyPower, CYME), and relay programming software (SEL, GE, Basler, etc.) (Required)
- Experience with BlueBeam PDF software is an asset.

Base Salary: $100,000-120,000+ per year
- Salary based on experience and credentials
- Full benefits package and bonus structure
Work Hours:
- 40 hours per week
- Monday - Friday
