The Opportunity
The Entrepreneurship Specialist delivers innovative entrepreneurship and leadership services and programming to BCIT students and alumni. This position focuses on the delivery of programs, learning opportunities, and events through group, online and one-on-one learning environments. You provide services that ensure students and alumni have access to the information, opportunities, and resources they need in order to develop as entrepreneurs and/or leaders. You maintain a network of community partners, BCIT faculty, instructors, and staff in order to deliver services and programming and you work with the Director of Student Services to adhere to the highest standard and best practices of student services.
What You Will Do:
STUDENT INTERACTION & CURRICULUM
- Contribute to the development and facilitation of Entrepreneurship & Leadership programming, including but not limited to entrepreneurship events, the Peak Leadership program, and Awards and Funding programs
- Provide one-on-one and group learning opportunities for students
- Contribute to the development of learning resources and opportunities for students
- Create a sense of community amongst students, alumni, and the community through hosting various entrepreneurship, leadership, networking, and learning opportunities
- Engage in evaluating processes to ensure services are effective and meeting the goals of the department
- Organize and lead entrepreneurship and leadership events and programming together in collaboration with the Director of Student Services and the Event Manager
ENTREPRENEURSHIP & LEADERSHIP
- Understand local, regional, and international best practices for supporting students in entrepreneurship and leadership development
- Apply entrepreneurship knowledge in your work with students who are exploring entrepreneurship
- Assess student entrepreneurial readiness and needs and refer to appropriate BCITSA, BCIT and external community programs and services
- Adapt services and programs to meet the needs of diverse student and alumni groups (for example: indigenous students, women in the trades, students with disabilities)
- Engage in professional behaviour and act as a role model to students
- Collaborate with students to implement ideas and resolve issues
- Inter-departmental coordination (e.g., for planning events, programs, and services)
- Guest speaker recruitment, coordination, and support
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Services in promoting programs; monitor to ensure accuracy
PROMOTIONS
- Run information tables for programs and services as needed
- Stay abreast of all Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Student Services programs
EVALUATION
- Contribute to the ongoing evaluation of programs in terms of impact, outcomes, and value; recommend any adjustments or changes
- Survey program participants and volunteers and compile results; use data in evaluations
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING, NETWORKING AND COMMUNICATION
- Manage and cultivate authentic relationships with all staff and key internal and external stakeholders, especially employers
- Act as a BCITSA representative on various business committees and associations with the goal of developing long lasting relationships with key employers and business organizations
- Actively promote BCIT students and BCITSA Student Services in all activities with employers and industry partners
- Attend internal meetings and functions as required to increase opportunities for the department and association as a whole
OPERATIONAL DUTIES
- Understand and follow all policies and procedures
- Assist in developing and maintaining portfolio reports and manuals, documentation, operational statistics, safety, and security
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
- Support Student Executives and other staff members in their respective initiatives
- Assist other staff with duties, especially when busy
- Assist in training staff and developing operational procedures as needed
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Other related duties as required
About You:
You are passionate about supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and leaders and enjoy helping others turn ideas into action. You have strong facilitation, relationship-building, and communication skills, and are comfortable delivering programs, workshops, events, and one-on-one coaching in both in-person and online environments. You excel at connecting students and alumni with resources, opportunities, and community networks that support their growth and success. Collaborative, organized, and student-focused, you build strong partnerships with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders while maintaining a high standard of service and program delivery.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Degree in a relevant field
- Relationship building skills
- Five years of relevant experience
- Experience delivering similar programming
- Experience managing a business
KNOWELDGE & ABILITIES
- Understanding of student development theory, post-secondary student wellness needs and best practices
- Working knowledge of sponsorship and fundraising strategies
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Knowledge of Food Security within a post-secondary context
- Able to lift up to 11kg (25lbs), stand, carry, bend, crouch
- Familiarity with entrepreneurship services and educational supports available locally, provincially, and nationally
