Vergent Asset Management, an affiliate of Connor Clark and Lunn Financial Group, is seeking an intern in the role of Investment Analyst to support its expanding corporate sustainability program. The intern will report to the member of the senior investment team. The intern will be the key researcher on a unique and challenging project covering different aspects of ESG in emerging and developing markets.

Vergent is an independent and privately owned London-based investment manager specializing in frontier and new emerging markets. Vergent invests in companies operating in large and growing markets, whose consumers are experiencing an improvement in their living standards, and whose securities are traded inefficiently compared to their mainstream EM and DM peers. Job Description
Conduct in-depth governance practice analysis across sectors
Analyze financial statements, executive pay structures, corporate events and activities
Profile boards and assess effectiveness of different committees
Collect and analyze information from governance and sustainability reports and other filings
Review and analyze external audit reports and opinions
Benchmark findings against best practice and examples in developed markets
Assess regulatory and minority protection laws in countries of interest
Conduct in-depth governance practice analysis across sectors and assist the team in identifying risks and opportunities as set out by the project
Perform other tasks as required
Candidate Profile
Pursuing or completed a bachelor's or master's degree in finance, business and/or economics or relevant field
Passion for and knowledge of investing and markets
Experience in corporate governance research is preferred
Ability to analyze financial statements
Proficiency in Excel
Strong data management and analytical skills and a passion for research, including the ability to read, understand, analyze and articulate large amounts of data
Strong writing and verbal skills, including the ability to organize, interpret, and summarize large amounts of information
Eager to learn and willing to go the extra mile
A curiosity to learn about new countries, cultures, and markets
