The Saint John Transit Commission is currently seeking a Journeyman Truck & Transport Mechanic. This position carries out the duties associated with the operations of the mechanical garage and road service calls to provide for the maintenance and administration of transit owned vehicles and equipment.
The current shift assignment consists of day shifts, Monday through Friday. However, the successful candidate must be willing to work evenings, nights, weekends, overtime, and statutory holidays as required to meet seasonal demands and unforeseen operational requirements. Work requires a high level of attention and mental sensory coordination with some physical effort and frequent exposure to heat, cold, fumes, dirt, oil, chemicals, welding, cutting and gouging equipment.
The ideal candidate will be licensed Journeyman Mechanic holding a Truck & Transport License. The successful candidate must have their own tools and roll box, and a minimum of a Class 5 Drivers License with Air Brake Endorsement or willing to upgrade to Air Brake Endorsement.
NOTE: a Registered Apprentice in the Truck and Transport Service Technician Trade may be considered for this position, with wages based on the percentage as outlined in the New Brunswick Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act.
SALARY: Initially, the successful candidate will receive 90% of full-time rate for the first 1040 hours. After 1040 hours the successful candidate will move to 95% for the next 1040 hours. Once 2080 hours is reached, the 100% rate will be $41.48 per hour.
