Polymer Testing Analyst

Role Overview:
As an ideal candidate, you are a junior engineer with expertise in ASTM and ISO standards, proficient in conducting tests and managing data for materials, specifically polymers and polymer composites. You bring hands-on experience with various polymer testing instruments and a proactive approach to learning new testing methods and developing in-house procedures. Your skills in organization, communication, and time management are exceptional, and you thrive in collaborative environments where you can contribute to innovative solutions and push boundaries in material characterization and testing.
In this role you will be responsible for the following key areas:
- Complying with all safety requirements of the work environment including wearing PPE and following safe operation and materials handling protocols.
- Understanding and complying with testing standards, mainly for polymers and polymer composites, including ASTM and ISO.
- Preparing samples and conducting tests and characterization of biobased and/or compostable polymers and their composites generated in the several different projects that are ongoing in the R&D Department. Such tests include tensile, flexural, and impact testing, heat deflection temperature (HDT), melt flow index (MFI), density measurement, DSC, TGA, etc.
- Understanding and maintaining the system of sample submission/data generation/reporting that is currently used within the company.
- Improving the said system as needed.
- Storing, reporting and maintaining the testing data generated for several different projects.
- Understanding new testing methods and learning to operate new instruments for newly developed materials.
- Preparing and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the testing instruments as required.
- Communicating with the manufacturers and conducting troubleshooting of the testing instruments as required.
- Working with the Head of R&D to prioritize tasks and coordinate testing schedules on a weekly basis.
- Providing support in sourcing supplies and consumables for testing and characterization as needed.
About you
- Bachelor’s in Polymer Engineering, Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Minimum 1 year to maximum 3 years of hands-on experience in testing and characterization of polymers and polymer composites.
- Proven background in education and/or scientific research in the field of polymers and polymer composites.
- Experienced with a variety of polymer testing instruments such as UTM, HDT, MFI, DSC, TGA, etc.
- Ability to quickly grasp function and operations of new instruments.
- Detailed planning and time-management skills.
- Great organizational, documentation and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Demonstrated skills with regards to flexibility and adapting to changing priorities.
- Proficient in using the Google Workplace suite of products.
- Comfortable with a mix of both desk and physical work (such as regular bending and twisting) on a daily basis.
- Fluent in English.
