Position Summary:
The Medical Imaging Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is an integral member of the multidisciplinary Computed Tomography (CT) team. The RPN provides direct patient care to individuals of all ages undergoing diagnostic CT imaging and CT-guided interventional procedures. The incumbent practices in accordance with the Registered Practical Nurse job description, the Regulated Health Professions Act, and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitating patient flow and ensuring effective communication throughout the patient care experience.
- Performing patient assessments, monitoring patient status, and responding appropriately to changes in condition.
- Preparing patients for CT examinations and procedures by providing education, explaining the examination process, obtaining relevant clinical history, and supporting informed consent processes as required.
- Initiating and maintaining intravenous (IV) access for contrast-enhanced imaging studies and other CT-related procedures within scope of practice.
- Assisting patients with changing and preparation requirements prior to examinations.
- Safely transferring and positioning patients on and off the CT scanner table, as well as facilitating transfers between CT and other clinical areas within the hospital.
- Monitoring patients before, during, and after imaging and interventional procedures to support patient safety and comfort
- Collaborating with CT technologists, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Assisting with the preparation, stocking, and organization of CT rooms and supplies to support efficient departmental operations.
Maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to departmental, organizational, and professional standards, policies, and procedures.

Position Requirements:
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN).
- Minimum two (2) years of recent clinical experience as a Registered Practical Nurse.
- Successful completion of an Enhanced Skills Program/Upgrade, including medication administration, comprehensive assessment skills, intravenous (IV) initiation and management, and related competencies.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/CPR) certification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively and communicate professionally with patients, families, physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Experience providing care to adult and pediatric patient populations, including oncology and renal patients.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment with high patient volumes and rapid turnover.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in providing nursing care across a variety of clinical settings and to patients with varying levels of acuity and complexity.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and critical thinking skills.
- Commitment to patient-centred care, safety, and quality improvement.
- Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and professionalism.
Excellent attendance record.

Preferred Assets
- Previous experience in Medical Imaging and/or Computed Tomography (CT) environments.
- Experience with IV contrast administration support and monitoring of patients undergoing imaging procedures.
Knowledge of patient preparation requirements and post-procedure care associated with diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures.
