This position will be based out of the Scotia Barn location.
Salary Range: $72,000 - $78,000
Reporting to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager (AGM) partners closely with the General Manager to ensure the complex is run in a way that supports the annual operating plan and drives continuous improvement. The AGM provides strong day-to-day operational leadership across the complex's departments, steps in for the General Manager when needed, and helps build a team culture that exceeds company objectives.
This role provides direct leadership to the League Manager, Youth League & Program Manager, and Event & Community Coordinator, and is responsible for maximizing participation, customer retention, game deck and amusement games utilization, and program revenue — all while strengthening Canlan Sports' presence within the local community.
- Sports complex culture, customer experience, and cleanliness
- Operational efficiency and health & safety of customers and employees
- Program and revenue growth across adult leagues, youth leagues, instructional programs, camps and clinics, birthday parties, stick & puck programs, tournaments and special events, and game deck utilization
You'll ensure programs are developed, marketed, sold, executed, and continuously improved to maximize participation, retention, and profitability.
- Support effective communication with stakeholders and help resolve conflicts as needed
- Champion consistent delivery of Canlan Sports products and services through audits, standard operating procedures, and NPS scores
- Recruit, select, and develop a strong complex leadership team
- Support performance management, KPI setting, and corrective action processes
- Contribute to strategic planning alongside the General Manager and Senior Management
- Support payroll, accounts receivable, purchase orders, and financial/business reporting
- Build strategic relationships within the community and catchment area to drive revenue
- Champion adoption of Canlan Digital platforms (Canlan App, Canlan Stats, One Canlan ID)
- Direct and coach the League Manager, Youth League & Program Manager, and Event & Community Coordinator on program growth, marketing, and retention strategies
- Design program schedules, league structures, and annual programming calendars that maximize capacity, experience, and financial results
- Build relationships with schools, community groups, minor sports organizations, and local businesses
- Diploma or Degree in Business, Recreation, Facility Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3–5 years of experience in sports facility management, including program marketing, food and beverage exposure, and facility maintenance
- Demonstrated team leadership and development ability
- Entrepreneurial sales and business development skills in a sports/recreational environment
- Strong customer and client focus
- Experience with the technical aspects of ice making and maintenance is an asset
- Sound business acumen and understanding of how business dynamics drive results
- Ability and willingness to travel between complexes within the Lower Mainland region as required
