We are recruiting a Licensing and Commercialization Associate, Business Intelligence, who will conduct financial valuations, market analyses, and provide commercial support to UHN inventions and technologies. Through these critical activities, you will work to identify the full commercial potential of UHN’s technologies and ensure UHN receives fair value for them from investors.

The successful candidate will work in a team environment with other licensing and commercialization team members, and additionally support other Commercialization at UHN activities in the critical areas of research partnerships, licensing, and new company creation. The successful candidate will not only be technically strong in performing valuations and market analyses but must also demonstrate outstanding communication and collaboration skills with a good knowledge of the potential applications of the life science and medical device technologies being assessed.

In this role, the Licensing and Commercialization Associate, Business Intelligence, will primarily be responsible for:
  • Leading detailed Market and Financial analyses, including development of financial valuation models (i.e. discounted cash flow), to support major deals (i.e. licensing and spin-offs)
  • Providing support in assessing the market viability and patentability of potentially life-changing discoveries arising from UHN research labs
  • Providing analysis support to various stakeholders such as UHN Research Principal Investigators, the Commercialization at UHN licensing team, entrepreneurs-in-residence and spin-off company management teams in developing pitches and business plans aimed at securing investment capital for technology development
  • Providing analysis support to other departments at UHN as well as external tech transfer office clients as directed, and supporting general Commercialization at UHN outreach activities
  • Developing and maintaining a database on Commercialization at UHN’s performance as a technology commercialization office in comparison with other top peer offices, and supporting internal and external communication initiatives based on this
  • Sourcing third party business intelligence consulting firms and delegating and managing out-sourced market analysis projects
  • Supporting or leading other special projects as required
Qualifications:
  • At minimum, completion of a Master’s degree in Life Sciences or recognized equivalent required; MBA preferred
  • At minimum 2 years practical and related experience
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical or biotech business development, technology transfer, venture capital, investment banking or related environment preferred
  • Experience in the creation of valuations and market assessment analyses which support financial and deal term negotiations and decision-making is preferred
  • Good capacity for understanding and evaluating detailed deal terms as well as underlying technologies is preferred
  • Good knowledge of patent and licensing practice preferred
  • Strong presentation skills required
  • Experience in Microsoft Office environment, including strong proficiency with Excel, is required
  • Experience with internet patent and other business database searches preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize while working under pressure with tight deadlines is required
  • Self-starter with demonstrated history of taking initiative is required
