Position Summary:
As part of the Quality and Patient Experience Team, the Data Collection Student supports high quality care through the manual collection of data that measures the accuracy and consistency with which key patient safety processes are administered on clinical inpatient units. This data, obtained through documentation review, observation, and in-person surveying of patients and families, is analysed to provide feedback to clinical teams, inform improvement actions taken by unit leadership, and is included in program and organization-level reports.
Responsibilities:
- Follows Infection Prevention & Control, Safety, and Privacy policies and procedures
- Identifies Appropriate Data Collection Opportunities
- Consults with unit and Quality staff
- Achieves targeted data sample sizes
- Accurate Data Collection:
- Review documentation of patient safety assessments and interventions
- In-room observations regarding the implementation of specific patient safety interventions
- Survey patients/family members regarding their experience of specific patient safety interventions
- Data Entry
- Navigates electronic form to input data points
Qualifications:
- Experience working in a patient care environment
- Ability to interact patiently and effectively with a diverse range of patients and family members
- Good communication and observational skills
