Location: Corner Brook
Employment Type: Part-time (up to15 hours per week, dependent on program scheduling)
Pay rate: $27 /hr
Start Date: September 2026
Position Summary
Ukrainian National Federation of Canada is looking for an experienced ESL instructor to join our Western NL team! Instructors will be responsible for planning and delivering English language instruction to Ukrainians, and other immigrants with newcomer or permanent resident status. Instructors will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes language development, confidence, and integration into the community. ESL programs will be delivered 1-2 evenings per week, plus individual lessons as required. Classes may be a combination of in-person and/or online instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging ESL lessons aligned with learners’ language levels and needs
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that reflect real-life communication situations
- Adapt instruction to accommodate different learning styles
Student Support
- Assess student language levels and monitor progress
- Provide feedback and individualized support to learners
- Encourage learner participation and confidence in English communication
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming classroom environment
Program Administration
- Maintain attendance records and student progress documentation
- Assist with student assessments and reporting requirements
- Participate in program evaluation and curriculum development
Community Engagement
- Provide information about community resources that support newcomer integration
- Encourage cultural exchange and community participation through language learning
- Collaborate with staff and community partners to enhance program delivery
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field preferred.
- TESL/TEFL/TESOL certification or equivalent training is preferred
- Preference will be given to bilingual (Ukrainian-English) instructors
Experience
- Experience teaching ESL or adult literacy is required
- Experience working with newcomers, immigrants, refugees, or diverse communities is an asset
