One Posting. One Machine. Two Levels. Your Experience Decides.
We’re hiring a Press Operator for our W&H Miraflex CI 8-colour flexographic press — and we’re intentionally posting this as a single role. Whether you’re an emerging flexo operator building your skills or an experienced hand who can run the press independently and mentor others, we want to hear from you. We’ll assess your experience during the interview process and place you at the level — and the pay — that matches what you bring to the floor.
No experience with a W&H Miraflex specifically? That’s okay. Proven CI or wide-web flexo experience transfers. What matters is your aptitude, your approach to quality, and your attitude toward learning.
Who We Are
Wedlock Paper Converters Ltd. is a Mississauga-based manufacturer of flexible packaging and converted paper products for food and consumer goods customers across North America. Our press room runs to GMP, AIB, and food-safety standards, and our Operator Academy is our structured approach to developing press talent from the ground up.
If you’re hired as a Junior, you join a defined progression path. If you’re hired as a Senior, you’re the technical lead on shift.
What All Press Operators Do Here
Regardless of level, every Press Operator at Wedlock is accountable for:
- Operating the W&H Miraflex CI 8-colour flexographic press safely and to production standards
- Plate mounting — independently and proficiently to registration and quality standards
- Verifying mounted plates against work orders and artwork approvals before press start-up
- Staging plates, anilox rolls, and inks; supporting web threading and changeover clean-up
- Monitoring print quality in-process and flagging deviations early
- Loading and handling substrate rolls, ink pails, and press components safely
- Completing production, waste, and mounting log entries accurately
- Following all LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, and GMP/food-safety requirements
Junior Press Operator — If This Sounds Like You
You have some time on a flexographic press and you’re developing your skills with support from experienced operators. You know the basics of set-up and changeover, you’re building your plate mounting confidence, and you’re motivated to keep growing. You bring:
- 1–2 years of experience in a flexographic press environment (CI press experience preferred)
- Hands-on plate mounting experience, or strong mechanical aptitude and genuine willingness to reach full independent proficiency quickly
- Ability to assist with press set-up and changeovers and run the press under guidance
- Good attention to colour, registration, and quality standards
- Comfortable following detailed work instructions and escalating issues appropriately
- Able to work rotating shifts including days, nights, and weekends
- Basic computer literacy for production log entry
- High school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
Senior Press Operator — If This Sounds Like You
You’ve been running flexographic presses independently for years. You set up complex multi-colour jobs from scratch, troubleshoot print-quality issues without needing to escalate, and you naturally guide less experienced operators when you’re on shift. You bring everything in the Junior profile, plus:
- 3–5+ years of flexographic press experience; CI or wide-web press experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to independently set up, run, and shut down the press across complex, multi-colour jobs
- Colour matching and ink train adjustment skills — you diagnose and correct registration drift, colour shift, ghosting, and tension issues in real time
- Troubleshooting ability that keeps downtime short and quality high without waiting for direction
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior operators or press assistants is a strong asset
- Track record of meeting OEE, waste reduction, and first-pass quality targets
The Real Talk: What This Job Is Like
- Rotating shifts — days, afternoons, nights, and weekends are part of the schedule on a 24/5 production floor
- Active manufacturing environment: machine noise, inks and solvents, variable temperatures. PPE is provided and mandatory
- Physically demanding — standing your full shift, loading rolls, and performing sustained fine motor work (plate mounting)
- Press downtime is everyone’s problem. You’re expected to be proactive, not reactive
