What you can expect in a typical day

We are looking for a Maintenance Engineering Technologist to join our Maintenance Engineering team at our refinery in Saint John, NB. Your primary responsibility and the majority of your time will be spent creating and updating engineering drawings as well as creating new part drawings. Working with cross-functional teams such as Mechanical Integrity, Reliability Engineering, Area Teams, and others, you will also provide other support in areas listed below. While some of your time will be spent in an office environment, this role also requires you to be in the field so you need to be able and willing to wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Your primary responsibility and most of your time will be spent drafting engineering drawing updates and changes including piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), isometrics, sketches, etc.

Other responsibilities to support our engineering teams include:

With engineering supervision, prepare basic repair plans.
Collect data and conduct studies and surveys on equipment and processes; be proactive in recommending improvements.
Investigate and analyze operational problems and opportunities; recommend sounds, workable solutions.
Participate in the installation, repair, and maintenance of refinery machinery and equipment.
Assist with inspection of mechanical installations.
Assist Area Engineers as required; support engineer work order creation.
Assist with inventory management and equipment part change orders.
Coordinate Drawing Update Process for the maintenance engineering group.
Prime liaison with Technical Document Control for up-to-date and easily accessed document record keeping.
Other duties as required within the team to achieve operational goals.

What you’ll need to succeed

Proficiency in AutoCAD, both 2D and 3D.
Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, including P&IDs, isometrics, plot plans, etc.
Good knowledge of common engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong technical writing skills.
Analytical thinker who enjoys finding solutions to problems.
Willing and able to continuously learn both through formal training and self-study.
Proficient with MS Office: Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint.
This is also a field position, so you must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, climb heights, and enter confined spaces while wearing all required PPE.


Travel is not a requirement for this role

Education and experience

Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering Technologist role or closely related field.
Minimum 2 years of work experience in an industrial environment.
