Position summary
Department / Research Program: Digital Health Innovation Program
The Medical Terminology Specialist plays a critical role in supporting digital health innovation and research initiatives by ensuring the accurate management, standardization, and interoperability of medical terminologies used across hospital and research projects. The candidate will report to Dr David Buckeridge, designated program leadership within the Digital Health Innovation Program at the RI-MUHC. This role is responsible for managing local and international clinical terminologies, overseeing terminology versioning, and supporting mapping and validation processes to ensure alignment with international standards. The specialist will collaborate closely with clinical teams, researchers, informatics specialists, and data teams to support high-quality, standardized health data use in research and operational projects.
General Duties
- Manage and maintain hospital-level medical terminologies, including but not limited to ICD-10, LOINC, DINs, AHFS, SNOMED CT, DRGs, DICOM and CCI.
- Oversee terminology lifecycle management, including updates, version control, documentation, and change tracking.
- Ensure alignment with international medical terminology standards and best practices.
- Maintain a strong understanding of local MUHC medical standards, clinical coding practices, and institutional terminology usage.
- Lead and support local-to-international terminology mapping processes, including validation, quality control, and documentation.
- Collaborate with clinical, research, informatics, and digital innovation teams to ensure consistent and accurate terminology usage across projects.
- Support data standardization and interoperability efforts for research datasets, digital health tools, and clinical systems.
- Develop and maintain clear documentation related to terminology standards, mappings, and governance processes.
- Participate in terminology-related audits, reviews, and quality assurance activities.

Education / Experience
Education: Master's Degree
Field of Study: Health Informatics, Biomedical Informatics, terminology and standards, Health Information Management, Clinical Informatics, Data Science, or a related field
Work Experience: 3 years of expertise required for this position.
Required Skills
- This position requires an advanced knowledge of oral and written French.
- An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English. The position also requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
