Position: Entry-level Construction Trades Instructor (Introduction to Construction Programs)
Job Type: Flexible (Full-Time or Part-Time / Project-Based)
Compensation: $40 - $55 per hour (based on experience)
Location: Saskatoon, with province-wide travel requirements
You’ve spent years mastering your trade, and solving problems on-site. Are you ready to step off the tools and build the next generation of tradespeople?
We are looking for an experienced, ticketed journeyperson or seasoned, non-ticketed tradesperson to join our team as an Entry-level Construction Trades Instructor. Whether you are semi-retired and looking for flexible project-based work, or an active pro looking to reduce your hours without leaving the industry, this unique and rewarding role lets you pass on your knowledge.
Does this sound like you?
- A journeyperson or highly experienced tradesperson looking for flexibility or a change of pace
- A professional who naturally enjoys mentoring, coaching, and leading crews
- Someone who takes pride in safety and real-world best practices
New to teaching? No problem. We don’t expect you to be a seasoned academic. You will start by co-delivering classroom and practical training alongside a senior instructor before progressing to independent course delivery.
Experienced instructor? Great! Many former trades school instructors or shop class teachers find this type of work to be a excellent fit. Though it does require periods of time away from home, there is some flexibility in the number of courses you instruct per year.
What this role looks like:
- Deliver short-term training programs, generally 2 to 8 weeks in length, focused on introductory construction and carpentry skills.
- We do offer training programs for a variety of trades – including carpentry, roofing, flooring, drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical, concrete, house maintenance, windows and doors, etc. If you are trained and knowledgeable in any of these areas, you could be a fit!
- Facilitate a mix of classroom and hands-on practical training, ensuring new-to-the-industry trainees are taught how to safely and properly select materials, use tools, and construct minor projects such as dog houses or sheds.
- Evaluate and mentor trainees, providing constructive feedback to help them grow.
- Travel within the province to deliver programs directly to the communities and clients who need them.
What we provide:
- Competitive hourly wage plus paid travel time and mileage reimbursement.
- Turnkey curriculum: We provide all course materials, lesson plans, tools, PPE, etc. You just bring the expertise and stories.
- Training: We will assist in delivering the courses and provide guidance throughout the process. You won’t be expected to handle it all by yourself.
- Ultimate flexibility: Hours and schedule are based on client demands and your availability.
Qualifications:
- Journeyperson Certificate (preferred but not required)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the trades (more is highly preferred), with a strong background in construction and carpentry.
- Leadership experience: Past experience as a foreman, supervisor, crew lead, or mentor.
- Communication skills: Ability to explain complex hands-on skills to beginners clearly and patiently.
- Technical skills: Comfortable with everyday computer tasks (email, internet, basic MS Office).
- Transportation: A valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for province wide travel.
- A strong commitment to valuing diversity and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Pay: $40.00-$55.00 per hour
