WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Role:
As a key member of the Canadian Finance Team, the Intermediate Accountant plays a key role in the capital assets and right of use assets function to meet the evolving needs of the Company. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recording the cost of newly acquired fixed assets and right of use assets, tracking existing fixed assets and right of use assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets and right of use assets.
The ideal candidate will have an engaged attitude and work style, and a passion for understanding the business through numbers. Success in this role requires a dedication to accuracy and a high level of competence in analyzing financial information.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain fixed asset master data, including set up of fixed asset cards with appropriate financial dimensions and depreciation methods.
- Set up asset records in the company’s procurement system and reconcile the procurement system to the financial system.
- Record fixed asset acquisitions, dispositions and retirements in the accounting system and generate monthly depreciation postings.
- Manage the AFE process from creation, approval, reporting and spending analysis vs. budget.
- Prepare bi-weekly and month-end reports of AFE costs and communicate with AFE owners.
- Prepare IFRS 16 lease entries for light-duty vehicles, buildings and other and equipment.
- Prepare lease periodization schedules with gross and net of discount.
- Work with intercompany transactions including compilation and preparation of documentation and journal entries to support asset movement between business lines and legal entities.
- Complete month-end close activities such as account reconciliations, journal entries and reconcile the fixed assets continuity schedule and right of use schedules for multiple entities.
- Identify and discuss anomalies with management to ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
- Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets and right of use assets and respond to the auditors in their inquiries.
- Identify process improvements through the efficient use of technology.
- Other ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a related role or equivalent experience.
- Experience within the oilfield service industry considered an asset.
- Strong computer skills with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skill – data management, pivot tables, etc.).
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Business Central and Avantis preferred.
