PROFILE
The Manager of Learning & Development Initiatives will work closely with the Head of L&D and other members of the L&D team to execute key components of the firm-wide learning and development strategy. This individual will be responsible for leading the design, development, implementation of learning and development projects and programs that strengthen the skills and performance of Business Service Team members across as the firm, as well as supporting broader development activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in learning and development in a corporate or professional services environment and a passion for fostering growth and development.
This position can be based in any of our Canadian offices.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and deliver high impact learning initiatives which meet identified development needs and proactively support the L&D strategy, People & Culture strategy and broader Firm Strategic Plan

Deliver learning and development programs, in person and virtually, as needed, for groups and individuals

Build strong and strategic relationships with key stakeholders across the firm and with external providers as needed

Work with the People & Culture team and leaders across the firm’s Business Services Teams to assess learning and development needs and make recommendations for new and existing programs, with a particular focus on developing the skills of our Business Services Team members, including Legal Administrative Assistants

Collaborate and consult on sourcing, developing and managing the delivery of vendor-led learning and development programs, as needed

Lead large-scale learning and development projects, including the L&D workstream of initiatives led by the firm’s Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO)

Partner with internal communications team to:

Promote and build awareness of learning and development initiatives

Align and coordinate strategic rollout of communication and training components of projects

Measure and report on the impact of learning initiatives, with a focus on continuous improvement

Contribute to the L&D team’s knowledge, development and use of innovative and digital learning techniques and tools, including strategic use of our learning management system

Provide leadership and mentorship within the L&D team

Develop self and maintain knowledge of relevant areas of work on an ongoing basis
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 5 years experience in L&D in corporate or professional services environment

Post-secondary education in a related field, with professional certification or equivalent experience in learning and development

Experienced L&D practitioner, with a strong track record of delivering high-impact learning initiatives in a corporate or professional services environment

Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills

Strong presentation skills with the ability to:

Deliver content in an effective, engagement way both virtually and in-person

Adapt content and approach to different skill levels and audiences

Strong project management skills, reliably and consistently delivering on agreed objectives and commitments

Ability to work independently and in a team environment, including in virtual and hybrid environments

Keeps knowledge and skills up to date, passionate about development for self, team and the firm;

Fluency in French and English preferred

The starting range for this role is $100,000 to $125,000. Starting salary will be determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range based on tenure and performance.
