Quality Control Inspector / Coordinator
Oil and Gas Construction - Shop and Field

Purpose / Summary
We are seeking an intermediate, hands-on Quality Control Inspector to support shop fabrication and field construction on oil and gas projects. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this role independently manages routine QC activities , including inspection, material traceability, welding and NDE coordination, pressure testing, and closeout documentation. The successful candidate will identify conflicting or missing requirements, place nonconforming work or material on quality hold when necessary, and escalate design, code, client, or high-risk decisions. This is a hands-on inspection and coordination position, not solely a document-control role.
Responsibilities / Scope of Services
- Review contracts, purchase orders, EWP/CWP packages, IFC drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, line lists, data sheets, client specifications, and applicable code requirements before work begins; identify missing, conflicting, or obsolete information before fabrication or installation proceeds.
- Prepare and maintain project QC documents, including contract review support, ITPs or quality plans, inspection forms, turnover indexes, client notification plans, and organized project files.
- Inspect incoming materials and verify size, grade, schedule or wall thickness, pressure class, heat numbers, markings, condition, quantity, and MTR/CoC documentation; maintain traceability and segregate nonconforming or undocumented material.
- Verify approved WPSs and current welder qualifications, and perform or coordinate fit-up, in-process, final visual, and dimensional inspections of piping, structural components, supports, valves, instruments, and fabricated assemblies.
- Maintain weld maps and logs, welder identification, repair history, and NDE, hardness, and PWHT status where applicable; coordinate NDE and confirm reports are complete, traceable, and assessed against the correct acceptance criteria.
- Prepare or review pressure-test packages and witness hydrostatic, pneumatic, leak, or service tests as applicable, confirming test boundaries, pressure, duration, medium, calibrated instruments, client notice, safety controls, results, and reinstatement.
- Inspect shop and field work, including supports, bolted joints, coating activities within the individual's qualifications, tie-ins, closure welds, reinstatement, and final walkdowns against current drawings and specifications.
- Maintain daily inspection reports, redlines and as-builts, photographs, punch lists, deficiencies, NCRs, RFC/RFI records, and evidence of correction; verify approved repairs, re-inspection, and re-testing before release.
- Coordinate client and vendor inspection points, keep Bluebeam and other digital project records current, compile turnover packages progressively, and provide concise status updates on upcoming inspections, overdue items, constraints, and decisions required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two or more years of practical QC inspection or coordination experience in oil and gas fabrication, pipeline, facility, process piping, or comparable industrial construction.
- Ability to read and apply IFC drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, WPSs, ITPs, client specifications, material documents, NDE reports, and pressure-test requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable requirements from CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, CSA B149.1, CSA W59, ASME Section IX, and client-specific quality requirements, with sound judgment on when an interpretation must be escalated.
- Practical experience with material traceability, welding inspection, NDE coordination, pressure testing, redlines and as-builts, and turnover package preparation.
- Where welding inspection is assigned, current CWB/CSA W178.2 certification and applicable code endorsement(s) must meet contract and client requirements
- Strong computer and document-control skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, PDF markup, email, and organized digital filing.
- Valid driver's licence; ability to travel to shop and field locations, work variable hours when required, and obtain or maintain site safety training such as CSTS/CSO, WHMIS, H2S Alive, and First Aid.
- Clear written and verbal communication, professional client interaction, attention to detail, and the confidence to challenge work that does not meet approved requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- CWB/CSA W178.2 Level 1/ 2 welding inspector certification with code endorsement(s) applicable to the assigned B31.3, CSA Z662, and/or CSA W59 work.
- API 1169 certification or comparable pipeline inspection experience.
- Experience with client turnover systems, Bluebeam Revu/Studio, SpoolFab or similar fabrication software, and electronic pressure recorders.
