The Cowichan Hospitalist Group and Island Health are looking for Family Physicians to join the growing team at Cowichan District Hospital. Hospitalists at CDH work alongside Cowichan’s community family physicians that continue to care for their attached patients. Together, they provide a highly valued and rewarding inpatient MRP service in our community hospital.
We have a 158 bed community hospital including general medical/surgical, ICU, perinatal, psychiatry, hospital at home, and a range of surgical services. As a Hospitalist physician at CDH you would provide MRP coverage to a range of inpatients. The case mix is varied and interesting. Full time, part time, and locum shifts are available. Most Hospitalists work for 7 days at a time, but some work shorter stints. We pride ourselves in being flexible and supportive. Many physicians provide longitudinal care, maternity or other work in addition to this service.
As a hospitalist you are well supported by our specialists and work in a high functioning, interdisciplinary team. Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education is an important part of our practice. We have a supportive mentorship program for physicians who have been out of acute care for some time. Approximately 10% of the local population is Indigenous and an openness to learning to provide culturally safe care is essential.
Compensation is competitive with other hospitalist contracts on Vancouver Island and in British Columbia. Relocation benefits may be available for part time and full time positions.
